Godolphin-raced colt Archives put up a really solid effort to score after racing deep most of the way. He was smartly away but he could not cross the leading trio (The Veal Thing, Palladian and Dam Ready) and he shared the lead, widest of all, without cover, at a good tempo. He was under pressure at the home turn but lifted gamely under James McDonald’s riding and he fought back for a narrow but very game win.

Crafted settled back in last place in the six-horse field before switching out to make a wide move nearing the home turn. He looked the winner when he challenged at the 100m and then fought well for a close second.

Big John Cannon was second last early on, shuffled back to last at the 700m and was under riding coming to the home turn. He then rallied over the closing stages to take third, looking suited to further.
