Waging War wins 2017 Chairman’s Stakes (Main Track) Group 3 $120000 at Morphettville Parks(SA) , 2030m, Soft(6).
Waging War was never near the fence but stayed best to win doggedly. He dwelt at the start but was scrubbed along to get into a handy spot, yet three wide, heading down the back. Rider Clare Lindop crept closer past the 1000m, but still three deep, and past the 600m they were within a length of the pace in a packed field. He lead going into the straight, that break being enough and although under pressure to the line he outstayed them to score a tough win.
Grand Chancellor was shuffled back near the last corner, was buffeted when making his challenge and got going again late to finish well for second fromMorvada, who had a lovely run, one out and one back, to the turn, got an inside split at the 200m and ran on quite well for third.
The judge was unable to splitVolatile Mix and Netherfield who dead-heated for fourth, the latter blocked for a run until the race was over.
