Greyhound racing is in mourning after the recent passing of Neville Wakefield, aged 84.
He was involved in greyhounds for decades and was a popular participant. He started training greyhounds in his 20s and notched up six decades of experience and success.
In recent years he's been best known for training sharp sprinter Fully Loaded who won 34 of 68 starts spanning between 2017 and 2019. Then involvement with Security Man who won 16 of 54 starts.
"Everyone loved him and he loved his dogs. There was never a dull moment around him and he will be missed," said close friend Elise Knott.
"I looked up to him immensely. He gave me a chance to train Rocky (Security Man) who was my first city winner – it's something I'll cherish forever."
His funeral is on Monday (September 2) at Tobin Brothers in Cranbourne from 9.30am.
