Tabcorp Park Menangle Preview & Best Bets – Saturday, November 30

3 minute read

Handy Victorian mare Isthisjustfantasy heads to Sydney in search of Listed success when she tackles the Teeny Teeny Stakes at Menangle on Saturday night.

The meeting also sees some highly competitive fields in the Christmas Gift and Brian Hancock Championship heats.

Race-by-race preview of Menangle, Saturday November 30

Race 1: KING OF SWING STANDING AT COBBITTY EQUINE FARM PACE (CHRISTMAS GIFT HEAT 1)

WASA HEAT SEEKER (9) steps out for the first time for David Aiken and brings strong form. Has been freshened since he led to win the Listed Be Good Johnny Sprint at Albion Park four weeks ago, his fifth win of a six-start Brisbane stint. He looks well placed to kick off in Sydney with a win. GAWN (11) showed improvement in his second outing since a stable switch, beaten only 4.4m at Listed level here last week. Draws wider but should be further improved and strikes at 50 per cent at this distance. MAEBEE (4) has been racing consistently at this circuit and added to a string of top-four finishes last week. Draws to be competitive again. STRAVINSKY (6) did a good job for second in his first outing for Seaton Grima and can progress off that.

Race 2: BESTINBEDS.COM.AU PACE (CHRISTMAS GIFT HEAT 2)

ROCKNROLL HAMMER (4) led when resuming as a hot favourite here last week and was only edged out by a nose. That was his first appearance since tackling good company over the Brisbane winter carnival and he strikes at 50 per cent when second-up so can progress enough to atone. WHISKEY CAVALIER (5) continues to race well, placing in all four starts since winning here. Came from a wider barrier than this in each of those outings so the better draw could see him deliver. Queensland Derby winner MAJOR HOT (2) failed as a hot favourite in his first Sydney outing but he is much better than that. Has had two months off since but has been readied with two nice trials so is worth another chance. JIMMY JAMES MAGUIRE (7) will be fitter for a second from a wider barrier at his local debut last week. Go well.

Race 3: TAB PACE (CHRISTMAS GIFT HEAT 3)

IM THE FALCON (4) produced two good efforts at Addington for the Grimson yard before switching to Sydney, finishing fourth when resuming before a midfield finish in the Group 1 NZ Free For All. That is strong form for this and he'll be nearing peak fitness third-up. Looks nicely placed to kick off in Australia with a win. There was plenty to like about the win of HY POACTIVE (2) in his first outing for the Alchin stable, drawing out and working when racing deep but toughing it out. The good draw could see him back that up. KOSIMO (3) has switched to the Paddy Lee yard since he last raced and has decent Victorian form including a Melton placing two back. A favourable draw could see him measure up. IDEAL MARQUESS (7) steps up in grade but is in fine form with back-to-back wins at this circuit.

Race 4: CORDINA CHICKEN FACTORY OUTLET PACE (BRIAN HANCOCK CHAMPIONSHIP HEAT 1)

JORDY (10) has yet to win but has been very consistent since crossing the Tasman, last time chasing subsequent New Zealand Cup winner Swayzee when runner up in the Cherry City Cup at Young. Draws out but a win looks imminent so could deliver here with even luck. COMPETE (9) resumes having joined Jason Grimson since he was last seen in the Vicbred Super Series where he was runner-up in a heat. He has won fresh before and has been readied with a solid trial. BAINBRIDGE (3) made a strong return after more than a year when he came from a wide barrier to win here. This is stronger but he draws much better and beat Compete in winning a trial since. OBADIAH DRAGON (11) only missed by a nose last time and came from a similar barrier to this when he won here three back at his local debut.

Race 5:  CLUB MENANGLE TEENY TEENY STAKES (LISTED CLASSIC)

ISTHISJUSTFANTASY (10) is a smart Victorian mare who has been freshened since last seen in the G1 Queen of the Pacific at Melton seven weeks ago but has been kept up to the mark with a trial. She owns an impressive strike rate and won her only try at the mile. Draws wide but has the talent to overcome that. PROMISELAND (7) draws a couple of spots lower than when a luckless fourth here last week, beaten only 4m after racing parked. Had put together a string of placings before that so deserves a win. MARIA ALLEGONDA (4) beat several of these rivals when she came from this same draw to get home by a neck at this circuit and distance last week, giving her two wins and a second from three starts this time in. Must respect that form. ZENXENA (5) and MAJOR FIRE (9) both got close to Maria Allegonda last week and are going well enough to be in the finish again.

Race 6:  SUCCESS STUD CELEBRATING 56 YEARS OF BUSINESS PACE (BRIAN HANCOCK CHAMPIONSHIP HEAT 2)

ROCKNALLOVERTHEWORLD (1) brings consistent form from Victoria, placing at Melton from back row draws in both outings since overcoming a wide barrier for a Geelong win. The inside draw gives him every chance to measure up. MAJOR MAL (2) has been impressive with dominant wins in both starts since switching to the Grima yard, leading to score by 10m here on Tuesday. This is stronger but he has the speed to be prominent from another low draw.  EL CAMINO (10) draws wide but made it three placings in a row at this venue when only 1.6m away last start and will be at his peak now. A win looks imminent. RAKERO ICE (7) is two from two since switching from New Zealand and she too is on a quick back-up having scored here on Tuesday. Takes on the boys and draws wider but has upside.

Race 7: PRYDE'S POWERPAK PACE (BRIAN HANCOCK CHAMPIONSHIP HEAT 3)

MR BONDI (9) makes his first appearance for Jason Grimson and arrives in Sydney in strong form, winning both outings on country tracks this time in. Came from a similar barrier to score narrowly last time at Wagga and looks likely to make an immediate impact. REPELLING (12) resumes after seven months but brings some decent form from Victoria, winning two back at Melton. Draws out but has been readied with a trial so can measure up. DONTLETFEARSTOPYA (4) is racing well with a string of top-three finishes at this circuit including a win from this same barrier two back. Can play a role again. KEAYANG WASABI (1) came from wider to win last start at Terang and won his only attempt at the mile so expect a good showing from the inside draw. GUILTY PARTY (6) is in form and deserves respect off back-to-back wins.

Race 8: ULTRA AIR PACE (BRIAN HANCOCK CHAMPIONSHIP HEAT 4)

MIKI PINS (7) made a winning start for new trainer Jason Grimson when he came from a similar barrier to this and raced parked but toughed it out at this circuit and distance. Beat a handy one there and he looks capable of going through his grades. MAJOR JELLIS (6) was a big improver when second-up here last week, coming from a wider barrier when beaten just over a metre into third. He can take another step forward. HE AINT FAKIN (3) has placed in both starts at Bathurst since a long layoff and races very well third-up with two wins and a placing from three attempts. Building nicely and can progress again aided by a good draw. CAPTAINS CATCH (5) worked when fresh but should strip fitter so is capable of improvement.

BEST BETS:

Race 2 #4 Rocknroll Hammer – Edged out fresh but will be fitter so can atone.

Race 3 #4 Im The Falcon – Well placed to kick off in Australia with a win.
