Busan Race 1: Class 6 (1400M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million

Picture: Press Photo

It's hard to go past (10) SEUNGNI GITBAL. She beat three of these on her way to 2nd place over this distance on May 3rd and while she has the challenge of the widest gate here, she doesn't necessarily need to lead, and she may not even need to improve to win this. That's because there isn't much to fear from this opposition. (1) YONGBI CHEONWANG overcame gate eleven to run a fair 4th over 1200M on May 5th. Given today's draw he may well revert to leading – as he had done in previous starts – and he can be in this a long way. (2) ILCHUL GOLD was 3rd behind Seungni Gitbal in that May 3rd race and while she has plenty to make up, she gets a weight swing in her favour as well as a better draw. (3) JOJOBA and (6) HAPPY NORTHERN are the other place chances.

(2) CHOEGANG TIME has had a stop-start beginning to his career but ran a solid 2nd at this distance back in January. He hasn't race since he won a trial in a double-quick time in mid-May and from a great draw and with an apprentice taking 3kg off his back, he can win first up today. (5) SHINE BOLT has been getting closer across her four starts so far, culminating in a 3rd place at this distance on April 14th when slow out and coming from a long way back. She shapes as the main danger here. (9) PRINCE DAY enters off a 2nd place at this distance on April 21st, albeit well beaten by a good winner. In this small field, the wide draw shouldn't be a problem and he is another who has a smart finish on him. (8) TWO ACE and (6) STUNNING SERVE are others in the placing frame.

Busan Race 2: Class 6 (1200M) Special Weight A / KRW 30 Million

Two first timers among these maidens and one of them, (5) OPEN SKY, will be the warm favourite. The Cowboy Cal gelding showed on pace in his trial, pulling away to win in a quick time, and if he brings that form to the races, he will take some beating. (3) BEOLMAUI ACE raced once for a fair 5th last November and hasn't been seen since. He trialled well two weeks ago and Moon Se-young, intown to ride Wonderful Slew in the KNN Cup later, taking the mount catches the eye. (9) GOTOTHEVALHALLA ran a fair 4th on debut in March, albeit in a slow time over 1400M. He comes in following twelve weeks out but in this company should be a threat. (4) FLASH DAY has a 4th and a 5th from his latest two, both at this distance and that's enough to put him in the frame here. The unfortunately named (11) FAT BOY, another who can improve having trialled twice since an anonymous debut.

Selections (5) Open Sky (3) Beolmaui Ace (9) Gotothevalhalla (4) Flash Day

It's hard to go past (4) ECLIPSE HONOR. From two starts so far, he has a 2nd and a 3rd, both at this distance and in fair, if unspectacular, times. He has settled behind the speed and run on in both and in this company, he should have too much. (3) LADY FOX enters off a solid 2nd place in an all-filly race over 1300M on April 21st when she overcame gate eleven. She looks nicely in here and can be a danger. (7) CUPID RISE has the second fastest time among these for the distance, after only Eclipse Honor. That was recorded when 4th last time out on April 21st when he led for much of the way. David stays aboard and he should be in the finish again. (2) CRAZE CHANG and (10) NATURAL SOUND others to look out for.

Busan Race 3: Class 5 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

Fillies (and one mare) only here and (1) BLACK JILJU will be the one to beat. She is still a maiden after six attempts, but she has never finished outside the top five and she comes in having run 2nd on her first try at this class over 1300M on May 5th, racing on pace. She draws well to lead again and this time she can go all the way. (3) MARIA'S CALL got her maiden win in a similar all-filly race over 1300M on May 10th when leading from gate to wire. She comes up in class here but with only three races under her belt, has plenty of scope for more improvement and she can be the danger. (6) SUPREME QUEEN is, like Black Jilju, a maiden but she comes up in class following a few too many near-misses. She is another who likes to race on the speed and under a light weight, she can measure up. (9) TAP DREAM and (2) MORO the other placing chances.

Selections (1) Black Jilju (3) Maria's Call (6) Supreme Queen (9) Tap Dream

Seoul Race 3: Class 5 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

Fillies (and one mare) only here. (4) UASEN was a dominant winner on debut over 1200M on May 5th, taking things up in the home straight and skipping away to win by plenty. She comes up in class and also slightly in distance, but neither should be an issue and she will be a warm favourite to make it two from two. (5) PINK WIND also comes up in class following a maiden win, in her case at start number six over this distance on April 21st. Her time was faster than any of the others here who have tackled the 1300M have achieved and down in weight, she can measure up. (1) LOVE COWGIRL ran out of steam on her first appearance in over six months in April. She has placed twice at this level though and should have derived benefit from that run to the extent she can be in the mix here. (6) DIANA and (8) GIANT FORCE among others to consider.

Busan Race 4: Class 5 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 45 Million

Competitive race. (11) GONJOHARI debuted somewhat anonymously last summer and then didn't reappear until this April 26th. And some reappearance it was as he slipped away from the field to win by a cool twelve-lengths over 1200M. He comes up in class but the manner of that first-up win suggests there can be more to come, and he is favoured here. (9) BREEDO WIZARD is yet to win in seven outings but has also never finished any worse than 4th. He enters off a close 2nd place over 1200M at this class on May 10th and he should be close again. (5) META PRINCESS is a winner of two from four including at this class and distance. She comes back in trip following a fair 5th over 1400M and after twelve weeks off, can be in the mix here. (4) ONEULISUNGAN and (2) ROAD TO WARRIOR are others to consider.

Seoul Race 4: Class 4 (1300M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

(4) URUS KHAN was a winner on debut and then went through class 5 with two runner-up finishes. That brought him rapidly up to this level and he ran a good 3rd place over 1400M last time out when slowly away and running on. That was back in March so he comes in fresh off a twelve-week layoff and he can win first-up here. (3) VILLARRICA scored at this class and distance on April 20th, coming from well back. He carries an additional 3.5kg this time around but he draws nicely and warrants respect. (1) WORLD SHANNONS enters off a runner-up finish in a quick race at this class and distance on May 4th. He draws nicely for a sift lead and can be in this a long way. There are loads of others with at least placing chances, with (11) HIT POWER and (10) SPARK THUNDER perhaps chief among them.

Selections (4) Urus Khan (3) Villarrica (1) World Shannons (11) Hit Power

(7) BEAT DRAGON enters having run 2nd in a quick race at class and distance on May 12th when he led for most of the way around. He comes up 2kkg in the weights, but he should be on pace again and with Seo Seung-un climbing on, he can go one better today. (3) SKY GRIT has a 4th and a 5th at 1300M and 1400M in two starts at this class since getting his maiden win. He comes up to the mile for the first time having drawn well and he can be a danger. (4) HANEUL EUTTEUM beat a couple of these when coming from off the pace to run 3rd at this class over 1400M on May 5th. The step up in trip can suit and he can be running on strong again. (11) POSTMAN and (6) CHARMING ACE are also capable of delivering.

Seoul Race 5: Class 4 (1400M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

(8) CAPTAIN TIME comes up in class having won an all-filly race over 1300M in double-quick time on May 4th racing handy throughout. She is down in the weights here, can race on or close to the speed again, and has every chance of going back-to-back. (6) DRONE KILLER enters off a very narrow defeat in another very quick race, in his case over 1200M on May 5th. He carries the same light weight, CC stays aboard, and there is plenty to like about him here. (10) RAON THE CHARLIE has been working back towards another win. At his last start he was 3rd at class and distance and with the fastest final furlong average time of any of these, the wide draw shouldn't be an issue. (7) JUMONG CHEONHA and the up in class (9) SEOUL CHOEGANGJA are others in the hunt.

Busan Race 6: Class 4 (1200M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

Wide open race. (7) NICE DAY enters off a smart 2nd place at this class and distance on May 3rd when he led for much of the way and beat plenty of today's rivals in the process. He comes up 2.5kg in the weights but his going one better shouldn't be ruled out. (9) BREEDO PRINCE was 3rd in that May 3rd race having been slowly away and then running on well. That was just his third start so there is plenty of scope for further development and he should be firmly in the mix here, especially with a better start. (5) YEONGGWANGUI TANK won a fast race at this class over 1200M on May 12th. He comes up a full 4.5kg in the weights this time around but a repeat is possible. (4) B.K. ZENA and (11) KING ANYDAY others to consider.

Seoul Race 6: Class 3 (1600M) Handicap / KRW 75 Million

It took (1) STUNNING SKY five goes to get his maiden win but evidently enjoyed it and he followed up with another on April 21st when making all over 1400M. That means he is up rapidly in class, but he comes down significantly in the weights and from the inside gate, he can lead again and complete his hat trick. (8) BENCAL PRINCESS also comes up in class following a quick win at 1400M on April 20th. Like Stunning Sky, she tackles the mile for the first time and also comes down in weight and she can measure up. (7) HUNTER BLADE and (9) MAGIC HOUR came home 3rd and 4th when they raced one another at class and distance on May 5th and both can be in the mix to match or better that here. (5) DAPHNE another to keep safe in your wider numbers.

Busan Race 7: Class Open (1600M) Special Weight A / KNN Cup (KOR G3) / KRW 500 Million

The Queens' Tour for fillies and mares rolls on. (3) JEULGEOUNYEOJEONG took the opening two legs of the series, the Donga Ilbo over 1800M and the Ttukseom Cup at 1400M beating most of these along the way. She draws beautifully and with her being sensibly campaigned this year, there is little reason to oppose her again here. (5) WONDERFUL SLEW is one of few fillies who has beaten the favourite. She ran 2nd in The Donga but skipped the Ttukseom in order to take on the boys in the YTN Cup where she finished a creditable 5th of fifteen. That Moon Se-young gives up a weekend in Seoul to ride here, suggests she should be close. (1) GANGSEO GIANT was 4th in the Donga Ilbo and 2nd in the Ttukseom and can be a danger again. (2) SUCCESS TIME and (9) RAON FOREST among other placing chances.

(4) STORM BREAKER is a winner of three from ten so far and enters having been an also-ran in the KRA Cup Mile, which was followed by a close 4th place in a fast race over 1200M on May 11th. He is already a winner at this class and distance, and he can prevail here. (1) DEVIL K beat a few of these on his way to 3rd place at class and distance on April 27th, settling midfield and finishing off pleasingly. Once more he carries his fair share of weight, but he should be in the finish. (8) MADISON MOUNTAIN enters with recent form reading well. She was 3rd on her only previous try at this distance and she should be in the mix again. (9) VISION POWER and under an apprentice claim, (2) CHEON GUN, others in the hunt.

Busan Race 8: Class 4 (1800M) Handicap / KRW 60 Million

After returning from four months off, (8) JANGSAN DEFI has been a beaten favourite in two starts back, finishing 2nd and 4th, both over 1800M. She looks nicely in again, Seo Seung-un takes over, and third-up she can be peaking fitness-wise. (6) MOUNTAIN DADDY is the main danger. He's won two of his latest three to get rapidly promoted to this class, most recently scoring over this distance on May 3rd. He is up in class here and while he doesn't get a weight drop, he should be close. (2) WIDAEHAN SEONTAEK doesn't exactly win out of turn but hi 3rd place at class and distance last time out suggests that he should be in the mix for the places again. (4) ROCK AND ROLL and (9) CHEONMA HASEO others in contention for at least the minors.

(7) GEUMBITMA will be the strong favourite here. He has fourteen top-four finishes from nineteen starts and most recently was the winner of a quick race over 1200M on April 27th, when coming from off the pace and scoring handily. That brings him up in class, but he has placed four times over this trip already and he is the one to beat. It's not a strong race for the level (the race is split with Saturday's race 11). (9) SUN DRAGON was 6th of eleven in a super-fast race over 1200M on April 20th continuing his fair start to life at this level. He may be ready for another crack at 1400M, and CC up is a positive. (5) DAEWANGU joins Geumbitma in being up at this class for the first time, following a win at this distance on March 2nd. He comes in off a thirteen-week layoff but gets a bigger weight drop than Geumbitma and can be competitive. (6) MORNING HILL and (3) JANGSAN POISON others to look out for.

(8) NAOL SNIPER made his regular class 1 bow over 2000M on May 5th and beat plenty of these with a win having overcome the widest gate to race handy. His only recent defeat came in the G3 Herald Business and with some high rated horses here, he remains well handicapped to win this. (1) MIGHTY GOOD also won on his first try at class 1 over 1800M on March 23rd, also beating plenty of today's rivals. He then ran a creditable 6th of fifteen in the G3 YTN Cup, He too is well in the weights, he draws well, and he is the main danger. (10) CHIEF INDY is the one whose big rating keeps most of the others nice and low in the weights. He took part in the first two legs of the Stayer Series, running 4th in the Herald Business and he is a class 1 winner at 2300M as recently as February. He gives away weight, but his ability can see him through. (7) SOUL MERIT and (4) JANGSAN MONSTER the other main contenders.
