Ladbrokes Blog: Caulfield Heath Preview – 14th December 2024

3 minute read

The Caulfield Heath track will host a rare Saturday meeting on December 14th and ten races are on the program. The rail will be left in the true position around the entire course and at publish, we’re faced with a track rated in the Good (4) range – everything is pointing towards an excellent day of racing.

Check out my complete Caulfield Heath tips below!

RACE 1 - 12:15PM: MRC Clip Clop Club Handicap (1500m)

Vixenette has returned to the races in competitive form, and I thought that this looked a lovely Saturday metro race for her.

Having broken her maiden at Ballarat when resuming back in August, Vixenette finished down the order behind the likes of Swiftfalcon at Flemington second-up but has since only just been denied in races at Morphettville and The Valley.

She's fit this week and the 1500m looks suitable.

RACE 2 - 12:45PM: IVE Print Handicap (1200m)

This looks another nice race for Flying Mikki.

Flying Mikki hasn't missed placing in three runs back this time, winning in BM78 company out at Moe two back before running second behind the classy Zou Sensation at The Valley last time out.

He's another one that steps out this weekend in peak order and this certainly isn't the strongest race on the program.

RACE 3 - 1:20PM: MRC Chairman's Club Handicap (1600m)

Dragoon takes winning form into this contest and looks capable of making it two in a row.

The Grunt gelding failed to beat a runner home in his first run back from a break, but he enjoyed plenty of improvement into a near miss at Mornington second-up.

Having produced an eye-catching turn of foot to run on and score here at his latest, he's ready for the mile and the stronger field.

RACE 4 - 1:55PM: Benchmark 78 Handicap (1500m)

Makena gets another great chance to win at Caulfield Heath on Saturday.

The Zoustar mare has turned in some fine performances around some decent competition this time in, winning up at Randwick-Kensington most notably, while she was only just denied here at her latest.

In peak order, dropping noticeably in the weights and from the good draw, she gets a number of ticks.

RACE 5 - 2:30PM: Magic Millions VIC 2YO Classic (1100m)

Just three of the eleven confirmed starters in this race have previous experience including Bacash, who I have put on top.

Bacash finished fifth, beaten three lengths on debut in the Listed Debutant Stakes and was only just denied by Tycoon Star in the Maribyrnong Plate on Melbourne Cup Day.

He's been freshened since that race, and this looks a winnable one.

RACE 6 - 3:05PM: Magic Millions VIC 3YO & 4YO Classic (1200m)

Miraval Rose is second-up and primed to strike on Saturday.

The Grahame Begg-trained mare is a black type winner, and I thought that there was a lot to like about her first run back this time when third, beaten just over a length in the Caulfield Village Stakes.

With natural improvement, I can't find a reason why she won't be in the finish.

RACE 7 - 3:45PM: Benchmark 70 Handicap (1800m)

Another open race with plenty of winning chances engaged, and I've elected to put Cyclone Harmony on top.

Cyclone Harmony has won two of his last three starts, including a BM64 contest over this route here at his latest.

He's hard fit, this is a slightly stronger race, but he looks up to it again.

RACE 8 - 4:20PM: Evergreen Turf Handicap (1000m)

Big Watch resumes in an open and winnable handicap this week,

The Shamus Award gelding hasn't been seen at the races since June, but he turned in some fine efforts in several races not dissimilar to this one during his autumn and winter prep, and he boasts a competitive fresh record.

We can have something on each way at the price.

RACE 9 - 5PM: Ive Idea Execution Handicap (1500m)

Likely gone are the days where he is fighting out the finish in Group 1 company, but Young Werther is still a more than capable galloper and something like this remains within his abilities.

The Tavistock gelding returned to action to win over 2000m on the main track in in August and his two subsequent starts have come in strong Group 1 races.

He's been freshened since the Caulfield Cup, he gets some relief in the weights under Tom Prebble, and I'm expecting his class edge to come into play this week.

RACE 10 - 5:40PM: Benchmark 84 Handicap (1200m)

Zou Sensation chases a hat-trick in the last at Caulfield Heath on Saturday.

The Zoustar gelding improved for three credible efforts when resuming earlier this season and was rewarded for his improvement condition with a win in BM78 company out at Kyneton.

He franked that with a dominant performance, arguably the best of his career at The Valley last time out, and a repeat of that performance would see him tough to beat again.
