Champion sire Dubawi (Dubai Millennium) took one step closer to a remarkable tally of 200 stakes winners when Naval Crown (3 c ex Come Alive by Dansili) won the Meydan Classic (Listed, 1600m) at Meydan on Thursday to become stakes winner number 197 for his sire.

The Charlie Appleby-trained Naval Crown led throughout to hold off his stablemate and short-priced favourite Master Of The Seas (Dubawi) by a length and three quarters with a further eight lengths back to Yurman (Asiatic Boy) in third.

Naval Crown was perfectly rated in front by jockey Mickael Barzalona while Master Of The Seas raced keenly back in the field, at his first start since finishing fourth in the National Stakes (Gr 1, 7f) at the Curragh in September.

Naval Crown, owned and bred by Godolphin, is the first foal out of Listed winner Come Alive (Dansili) who in turn is a daughter of Godolphin’s 2005 Severals Stakes (Listed, 1m2f) winner Portrayal (Saint Ballardo). This is the family of Australian Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m) winner Colette (Hallowed Crown).

He becomes the fifth stakes winner bred on this cross, which has also produced Group One winner Nezwaah and Group Two winners Glorious Journey and Time Test, and the 74th stakes winner for Dansili (Danehill) as a broodmare sire.

Dubawi is standing at Dalham Hall Stud in the UK for a fee of £250,000.
