Cowra racecourse is the home of the Cowra Jockey Club and is located in the central west of NSW, 310km from Sydney. Cowra Jockey Club was established in 1878 and hosts four meetings per year include the feature Cowra/Japan Cup and Diggers Cup meetings. 
Located on the Lachlan River, Cowra has been an important rural centre that is now surrounded by a growing wine industry. Cowra racecourse is a a tight egg-shaped speed track that suits horses able to hold a forward position. The circumference of the Cowra racecourse is only 1500 metres with a straightr run of over 600 metres from the 1200m startin chute to the home turn.  A tight home turn enters a 300m home straight.
