The Golden Rose Stakes is a Group 1 weight-for-age contest for three-year-old horses raced over 1400m at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse in Sydney.

The Golden Rose is the second Group 1 race during the Sydney Spring Carnival and is the first Group 1 race of the season for three-year-olds.

With $1million in prize money up for grabs, the Golden Rose always attracts a stellar field and the 2024 edition of the race will be no different.

The 2024 edition of the Golden Rose will take place on Saturday 28th September.

The exact start time for the Golden Rose has yet to be announced, but in 2023 it was Race 8 on a bumper Rosehill card.

The Golden Rose is expected to go to post at 16.05 (AEST).

Golden Rose history

The Golden Rose Stakes was first run in 1978 under the name of the Peter Pan Stakes.

It was originally raced as a Group 2 event, but the race gained importance every year and was named the Golden Rose in 2003 as the prize money reached $1million.

The Golden Rose finally became a Group 1 race in 2009.

The has a total prize fund of $1million, with the winner of the race taking home a tidy $580,000.

Second wins $190,000, with third place picking up $98,000.

Those who finish ninth and 10th in the race also take home $8000 for their efforts.

Golden Rose past winners

Militarize won the Golden Rose in 2023 for trainer Chris Waller and jockey Joao Moreira.

Jacquinot won the 2022 edition of the Golden Rose Stakes, with In the Congo coming out on top in 2021, while Ole Kirk scooped the big prize in 2020.

There have been some famous winners down the years, with the Autumn Sun winning in 2018 and Trapeze Artist in 2017.

Zoustar claimed the honours in 2013 and Denman in 2009.

Broadsiding is priced at 4.50 to win the 2024 Golden Rose, closely followed by Storm Boy, who is available at 5.50.

Traffic Warden is 9.00, while Bustling and Linebacker are both priced at 10.00.
