AFL: Lions and Giants clash in blockbuster

3 minute read

Brisbane will be out to keep up their remarkable run of form when they take on Greater Western Sydney on Saturday afternoon.

The Lions have won the last nine games on the bounce to move to second place on the ladder, two points behind Sydney.

A win over the Giants will be enough to take them top, if Sydney slip up against Collingwood on Friday night.

Chris Fagan's side can be backed at 2.50 to go on and pip the Swans to the minor premiership.

Next up is a clash with fourth-placed GWS, who have also hit a rich vein of form at just the right time.

The Giants have won the last five games in a row and can be backed at 4.00 to go on and secure a top-four finish.

There are some massive games this weekend, and they do not come much bigger than this one.

 Brisbane continue to shine

There appears to be no stopping the Brisbane Lions at the moment and they are quickly turning into the team to beat this season.

The Lions are 3.60 to win the 2024 grand final and on current form will take some stopping.

The Gabba has once again been turned into a fortress and they will fancy their chances of turning over the Giants at the iconic venue.

They can be backed at 5.50 to win by either 13-24 or 25-36 points as they look to gain revenge on the Giants, who beat them in Round 7 this season.

Brisbane are a different animal these days after recovering from a poor start to the season to go on an impressive unbeaten run.

They smashed St Kilda by 85 points last weekend with Joe Daniher booting four goals in the game.

The star forward can be backed at 8.00 to kick the first goal of the game against the Giants.

Cam Rayner also kicked three against the Saints and can be backed at 12.00.

 Giants back walking tall

GWS are back on track after winning the last five, but they cannot afford to take the foot off the gas.

They may sit in fourth spot, but are just one win ahead of Carlton in eighth spot, so there is still plenty of work to be done.

Despite the impressive run, a trip to the Gabba is their biggest test yet, and they will have to be at their very best to get the four points.

They will take plenty of heart from the way they kicked seven goals in the final quarter to overcome Hawthorn at the weekend.

The manner of the win should give them an extra boost as they look to complete the season double over the Lions.

Jesse Hogan is on fire this season as he booted another five goals against the Hawks.

He will be needed again and is 9.50 to kick the first goal of the game.

The Giants may have won by 54 points earlier this season, but a win by any margin this weekend would be huge.

They are 7.50 to win by 1-12 points.
