Godolphin-raced gelding Tally broke through at odds of $26 for his first win here since taking out last year's Mornington Cup (Listed, 2400m) just over 12 months ago. He raced back in sixth place, tracking a solid tempo, before improving along the inner on straightening. He got a split to hit the front at the 100m and went on to win well. Nettoyer, who has raced in Group class in all six starts this preparation but is the winner of only one race in nine starts, ran well for second. She settled back in third last place in the 12-horse field, got along the rails at the home turn, going to fourth at the 200m and kept running on well, failing only by a half-length. Rising Red chased the free-running leader (Radipole), went to the front at the 200m and did well in holding on for third. Interlocuter, a stablemate of the winner, raced in eighth place, improved between runners nearing the home turn, put in a good run shortly after and kept making ground for fourth, just missing third in a photo.
