Brisbane Cup (G2)

WT: 53.0kg Type: OPEN

Consistent Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott-trained mare Sedanzer, recent winner of the Scone Cup (Listed, 1600m), advanced to take out this Group Two race two starts later, her eighth win (with three placings) from 18 starts. Tim Clark settled her well back in third place, tracking a good tempo before improving well approaching the home turn. She took the lead on straightening and was untroubled from that point to score decisively, running the 2200m out well. Anton En Avant, last start winner of the Chairman's Handicap (Gr 3, 2000m) here on 12 May, raced in seventh place on the rails, improved (under riding) between runners coming to the home turn, went to second at the 200m and battled on to hold that position to the post. Kiwia settled near the tail of the eighthorse field, was last at the home turn, got a split at the 200m and battled on to take the minor placing. The top weight (59.5kg) Ambitious raced in fifth place, moved up (deep) from the 600m but was under pressure on turning for home. He then kept plugging on quite well in the heavy 8 conditions for (6.5 lengths) fourth.
