After a solid third in the Vain Stakes (Gr 3, 1100m) here two weeks ago, Native Soldier gave this handy field of three-year-olds few excuses when leading all the way from the widest barrier (15). He bounced into the lead, sped over to the rail and kept the pressure on throughout. Jockey Dean Yendall kicked him clear into the straight, widened the lead past the 100m and broke their hearts to win easing down, his third win and maiden stakes win from seven starts. The August was among the last group of five and wide approaching the last corner, pulled widest at the 300m and although no chance at all against the winner, flew home for second. Seabrook was midfield and five wide turning in and ran on for a distant third from Thorondor who held on fairly for fourth.
