Last start Gothic Stakes (Listed, 1400m) winner Ranier, aided by a lovely ride from master jockey Hugh Bowman, took his consistent record to two wins and five placings from seven starts. He held the rail in fifth position early, improving one spot approaching the 800m. Nearing the home straight Bowman sat quietly but at the 400m needed a gap, and a narrow one opened up before the 300m. Ranier accelerated, took over the lead at the 200m then Bowman kept at him, pumping away and able to hold on gamely by a neck at the line. Wild Planet sat outside the winner into the home straight, was blocked then squeezed through at the 250m and went after the winner. He fought strongly all the way to the line. Secret Blaze followed the winner throughout and got the same run at the 300m then finished quite well to nab third from Saccharo who co-led at the 300m but could only battle after that.
