Outstanding colt The Autumn Sun scored a good first-up win but not before some anxious moments for supporters. He settled in second last place, on the rails, in the six-horse field behind a steady early tempo. Kerrin McEvoy switched him into clear running on straightening but it took The Autumn Sun some time to pick up in the sprint home before showing his class in the final stages to score narrowly but well, his sixth win from seven starts. Vegadaze again went to the front, steadying the pace, got a break on turning for home and was only headed nearing the post for (long neck) second, his first defeat in four starts after running a bold race, advancing in class. Bondi raced outside the leader (Vegadaze) and kept battling gamely, holding on to take third.
