Simon Thomas' race-by-race Rosehill preview - 1st June 2024

3 minute read

Racing And Sports form analyst Simon Thomas provides his race-by-race Rosehill preview, thanks to tab.com.au.

Rosehill plays host to this Saturday's meeting where we see a strong ten-race card, with the highlight being the Listed Lord Mayors Cup over 2000m.

Local trainer Chris Waller will play a leading role again, with genuine chances right across the day, and I think we have pinpointed a few later in the meeting that represent good each way value. Read on for our preview of the full ten-race card, thanks to tab.com.au.

RACE 1 – 11.00am: Midway BM72 Handicap (1100m)

Ningaloo Star (6) tough mare who ploughed through the heavy (9) conditions on resumption with a dominant all-the-way 5 len victory over 1250m at Randwick Kensington on May 15. Molly Bourke stays on with the 3kg claim and should have little trouble back to the 1100m. Go close. So Good So Cool (5) returns from a spell of four months with good fresh form. Down in class today after contesting BM78 and 88 grade last time in. Fitted with a recent 1000m trial win and looks ready to go. Sure to be strong late. Everyone's A Star (3) racing in career best form and total forgive from the wide gate when disappointing at Scone last time out. Won over this course and trip two back and drawn the inside gate for this. Big improver. Yiska (8) has the three wins from 11 starts and not that far away of late in similar company. Finds the right race from the barrier to run into the money.

Tip: Backing Ningaloo Star to win at $4.00 with tab.com.au

RACE 2 – 11.35am: Ranvet Handicap (1300m)

Concordia Wind (10) scored an arrogant win on debut, after circling the field and swooping late with a 1.4 len victory over 1100m at Gosford on May 16. Further improved and will relish the extra trip on the firmer track. Can win again. Emirate (1) another of the Waller runners who created a big impression when scoring on debut over 1000m at Warwick Farm on May 8. Up in weight for this but drawn the inside and distance range suits. Omnic (5) raced closer to the speed at second career run when finished off strongly to secure second over 1200m at Newcastle on May 11. Close to his top now and will keep improving as he gets out in trip. Can play a leading role. Point And Shoot (7) drifted back at both starts before running on late and Clipperton sticks from the soft gate. Further improved now and can take this out.

Tip: Backing Concordia Wind each way at $11/$3.20 with tab.com.au

RACE 3 – 12.10pm: TAB Highway Class 3 Plate (1500m)

Rematch (1) classy gelding set to peak fourth-up from the good draw. Failed to sprint with the winner with the 59.5kg when a tenacious third over 1600m at Scone on May 18. No excuses today with the blinkers on from the good gate. Looks hard to hold out. One Beat No Beat (12) improving filly who won well two back before sitting on the speed when a wilting fourth in this grade over 1600m at Scone at latest. Can hold a forward position again and the drop in trip suits. Stays in the mix. Shipshape (8) had mixed luck of late and down sharply in the weights with the 2kg claim here. Sat on the speed with the 60.5kg when a battling seventh over 1500m at Hawkesbury on May 4. Will go forward again and give plenty of cheek. Zippo Idea (17) improving filly getting up to her right trip third-up. Not that far away when 1.5 lens ninth over 1300m at Scone on May 17. Tongue-tie goes on and can race a little closer from the good gate.

Tip: Backing Rematch to win at $3.40 with tab.com.au

RACE 4 – 12.45pm: EGroup Protective Services BM72 Handicap (1500m)

Captain Furai (19) Toronado gelding undefeated in two runs with plenty of upside. Sent straight to town at second race start when a commanding on-pace winner over 1300m at Randwick Kensington on May 15. Handles all types of going and looks up to this stiffer contest. Franz Josef (6) meets CAPTAIN FURAI better at the weights here after resuming with a plugging second over 1300m at Randwick Kensington. Has always shown above average ability and desperate for this trip on the firmer deck. Will prove hard to hold out. Influential (15) resumes from a break of six-and-a-half months after contesting group company last time in. Came to the end of his prep when 13th at Newcastle in the G3 Spring Stk over 1600m last November. Since fitted with two quiet trials and should be forward enough for this. Tajawal (3) far from disgraced at Australian debut when an even seventh over 1700m at Scone on May 18. Further improved and will find this more to his liking with the claim. Improver.

Tip: Backing Captain Furai to win at $4.40 with tab.com.au

Stable in top form at present and looks placed to advantage here on the limit weight. Pisanello (10) created a big impression second-up when launched late for a dominant 3 len victory over 1100m at Scone in easier company on May 17. Fitter now and should get the right tempo again to play a leading role. Queen Of The Mile (4) talented filly who drops sharply in grade fourth-up after tiring late when eighth in the LR Denise's Joy Stakes over 1100m at Scone. Well drawn here and can make amends at good odds. Morpheus Bragi (6) had his first run for the Chevalier yard when anchored with the 59.5kg from a wide gate finishing a narrow second over 1100m at Gosford on May 16. Stays in the calculations from the soft draw.

Tip: Backing In Flight to win at $4.80 with tab.com.au

RACE 6 – 1.55pm: Toyota Forklifts BM78 Handicap (1200m)

Demiana (16) only the one win from 10 starts but returned slick final splits when resumed for a fast finishing second over 1300m here on April 27. McEvoy rides today and expected to be strong late. Dazzling Lucy (6) Victorian-trained mare who returned from a six-month break with a tough on-pace fourth over 1100m at Flemington on April 25. Goes well this trip and since fitted with a recent trial placing over 900m here on May 24. Will sit on the speed and take catching.Jewellery (9) two runs back have been encouraging but will need plenty of luck from the outside gate in stronger class. Got out late when third over 1300m at Scone on May 18. Each way claims best. Valiancy (19) first-up after four months sat on the speed from a wide gate when an encouraging fourth over 1100m at Hawkesbury on May 4.
