Written Tycoon has been crowned Victoria's champion stallion for the ninth time with Yulong accepting the award at this year's Victorian Breeding Awards, which were held at the weekend.

The son of Iglesia sired three new Group 1 winners in season 2023/24, headlined by Golden Slipper heroine Lady Of Camelot.

His son Southport Tycoon won the Australian Guineas, while Velocious won at the highest level in New Zealand.

Lady Of Camelot finished second to Hayasugi in the Blue Diamond and it was that filly's sire, Royal Meeting, who was crowned Champion Victorian First Season Sire.

Bella Nipotina added two more Group 1s to her resume, the Doomben 10,000 and Tatt's Tiara, and was named Champion Victorian Bred Racehorse, while her dam, the late Bella Orfana, won the Champion Victorian Broodmare award.

Toronado was again awarded the VOBIS Sire of the Year, while Zoustar filly Miss Roumbini was awarded this year's VOBIS Horse of the Year.

Rosemont Stud was awarded the Racing Victoria VOBIS Nominator of the Year award.

Matt Laurie's Coleman, a son of Pierata, was named the Champion Victorian Bred 2YO, while Grunt's George Ryder Stakes winner Veight Champion Victorian Bred 2YO.

Both Grunt and Pierata stand at Yulong Stud.

Godolphin won the Champion Victorian Breeder award, while Des Pope and family were awarded the Leading Victorian Small Breeder award.

Dr Angus McKinnon OAM received the Service to the Industry Award for his decades of ground-breaking work in advancing equine veterinary medicine, not only in Australia but around the world, while Sophie Titter was recognised with the Stud Staff Support Line Rising Star Award.
