Pretty Brazen became the first filly providing Darley’s Brazen Beau with his 6th stakes winner.

Pretty Brazen became the first filly in 14 years to win Saturday's Sandown Guineas (Group 2) and in doing so provided Darley's Brazen Beau with his 6th stakes winner. A $700,000 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale purchase by McEvoy Mitchell Racing, Pretty Brazen scored by a neck from Lindsay Park's Conqueror with Heart Of Puissance a close third. 

Tony McEvoy bought Pretty Brazen on behalf of Linda Huddy and was familiar with the family having trained the filly's half-brother Dollar For Dollar. 

"Now that I know she can run a strong 1600 metres there's a number of races that will be available," Tony McEvoy said. 

"We can look to the Australian Guineas but there's also options in Sydney.

"She's got class, beautiful movement, has a beautiful temperament and the reason she cost $700,000 was I wasn't the only one that liked her.

"There was a lot of competition and I think we can relax now and enjoy the future." 

Pretty Brazen is the 7th foal out of stakes placed mare Pretty Penny who was purchased for $570,000 at the 2016 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale by Colm Santry Bloodstock carrying Pretty Brazen while Pretty Penny's 5th foal is Dollar For Dollar. 

"Brazen Beau was pretty hot and I had Dollar For Dollar out of that mare and she just ozzed class at the sales and Linda Huddy was very strong. 

"She showed even more vigor than Luke (Currie) did even then in the sales ring and I loved her for it.

"It was a lot of money for a first season sire." 

Saturday's victory took Pretty Brazen's record to 4 wins and 1 placing from 10 starts with her prize money now totalling $339,075. Her dam meanwhile was covered by American Pharoah last December having foaled a filly by that sire last November.
