Panzdown makes winning debut at Belmont.
The Pepper Tree Farm-based first-season stallion Panzer Division (Redoute's Choice) sired his second winner when Panzdown (2 g ex Moonrush by Encosta De Lago) landed the Racing Free Entry to Belmont 2YO Plate (1000m) on debut at Belmont on Wednesday.
The Simon Miller-trained two-year-old gelding scooted clear in the final stages to beat Janaura (Safeguard) by two and three quarter lengths with Reguardless (Safeguard) another two lengths away in third.
Purchased by his trainer for $60,000 at the 2019 Inglis Classic Yearling Sale from the draft of Arrowfield Stud, Panzdown is the third winner from as many foals to race out of winning Encosta De Lago (Fairy King) mare Moonrush.
Moonrush is herself a sister to Listed scorer Purely Atomic, while further back the gelding's third dam is Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Imperial Beauty (Imperial Ballet).
In 2018 Moonrush produced a colt by former Arrowfield Stud shuttler Real Impact (Deep Impact) and the next season she produced a filly by Scissor Kick (Redoute's Choice).
Formerly standing at Arrowfield Stud, Panzer Division now resides at Pepper Tree Farm and will stand for a fee of $5,500 (inc GST) in 2020.
