Dual Group 1 winner retires to New South Wales farm
Dual Group 1 winner King’s Legacy (Redoute’s Choice) has been retired and has already settled into his new home - Coolmore Stud - ahead of his career as a stallion.
The son of Redoute’s Choice (Danehill) finished fifth Saturday’s Randwick Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) and retires the winner of three of his 13 starts, with prize-money totalling $1,013,100.
Trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, King’s Legacy landed the Sires’ Produce Stakes (Gr 1, 1400m), prompting Coolmore to buy into the James Harron-raced colt. The colt then subsequently went on to win the Champagne Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) and in doing so became the only son of Redoute’s Choice to win more than one Group 1 as a juvenile.
Harron said he was pleased with the colt’s effort on Saturday and is looking forward to following his future at Coolmore Stud.
“It was a great effort by King’s Legacy on Saturday and jockey Tom Marquand reported that had he not been held up at a crucial stage in the straight he could have made things very interesting,” said Harron.
“King’s Legacy has been a tremendous horse for us and we could not be more excited looking forward to his future at Coolmore Stud. Some of Australia’s biggest breeders are involved with this colt and he will be strongly supported with outstanding mares throughout his stud career."
Purchased by Harron for $1.4 million at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, the colt is out of Listed-placed Hussonet (Mr Prospector) mare Breakfast In Bed, making him a half-brother to one other winner.
Breakfast In Bed herself is a daughter of Bella Sunday (Sunday Silence) - the dam of 2018 Flight Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Oohood (I Am Invincible), who finished also finished second in the Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) and Sires’ Produce Stakes as a two-year-old in 2018.
Bella Sunday herself is out of stakes-placed Singles Bar (Rory’s Jester) - the dam of Listed winner and successful sire Not A Single Doubt (Redoute’s Choice).
Coolmore’s Tom Magnier said the colt would be heavily supported by the farm and breeders.
“King’s Legacy is aptly named and is everything Australia is looking for in a young stallion prospect,” said Magnier. “He won the Sires’ Produce and then, after we joined the ownership, he added the Champagne Stakes at Royal Randwick.”
