Coolmore colt assures his place at stud with Slipper victory.
Coolmore's business is geared around finding stallions and the racing and breeding giant unearthed a valuable one at Rosehill on Saturday.
Shinzo stamped himself as one of the hottest stallion prospects in the country with a career-defining win in the $5 million Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m).
The bay colt is a son of four-time Australian Champion Sire, Snitzel, out of Samaready, whom Coolmore principal Tom Magnier paid $1.8 million for at the 2020 Inglis Chairman's Sale.
Samaready was carrying Shinzo at the time and, like the many of the high-priced yearlings Coolmore has bought in partnership with its colts syndicate in recent years, is trained by Chris Waller, who has a share in Shinzo.
"He's a very good colt and I appreciate the owners with entrusting me, not just with him but with a lot of other good horses, valuable horses," Waller said.
"I guess that takes things to a different level of pressure. They need results and they chose me to try and find a Group 1 Golden Slipper winner and we've managed to do it for them."
Shinzo became the first Golden Slipper-winning son of Snitzel (Redoute's Choice), who finished 12th as $3.60 favourite in the 2005 Slipper.
Samaready (More Than Ready), the 2012 Blue Diamond winner, also started favourite in the Slipper, at $2.80, and finished third behind Pierro and Snitzerland.
The Mick Price-trained mare was retired after her four-year-old season, during which she won a Group 1 Moir Stakes (1000m), but has had a chequered history in the breeding barn.
Shinzo is only her second foal to race, following Exhilarates who won a Magic Millions 2YO Classic and four Stakes races.
Exhilarates and Shinzo are Samaready's only two visits to Snitzel, who stands at Arrowfield Stud.
Either side of Exhilarates she had foals by All Too Hard who both died after birth and then had no luck after visits to Fastnet Rock and All Too Hard again in 2017 and missed to I Am Invincible in 2018.
After missing to Justify in 2020, Samaready made visits to both Fastnet Rock and Wootton Bassett in 2021 and was exported to Coolmore's Ireland operation in February last year.
