A look at some of the first season sires represented on the Gold Coast this week

The Australian Weanling Sale earlier this month gave buyers the first chance to secure youngsters by stallions who stood their first season in 2021 and this week's Magic Millions National Weanling Sale on the Gold Coast presents the next chance.

Twenty-two freshman sires are represented including Golden Slipper winner Farnan, three-time Group 1 winner Bivouac, the well-related Ole Kirk, dual Group 1-winning juvenile King's Legacy and imported star Wootton Bassett.

FARNAN: The 2020 Golden Slipper winner led the averages for first season sires at the Australian Weanling Sale, selling three at an average of $153,333. The Kia Ora Stud-based son of Not A Single Doubt is the most heavily-represented sire in the National Weanling Sale with 16, including a colt who is a half-brother to G2 winner Quackerjack (Lot 339) and colts out of G3 winners Duchess Kate (144) and Insta Erma (222).

ANDERS: Another son of Not A Single Doubt is the second most prolific sire in the catalogue with 15 youngsters on offer. The Widden Stud resident had five sell at Inglis with a top price of $90,000.

OLE KIRK: Vinery's Golden Rose and Caulfield Guineas-winning close relation to Black Caviar and All Too Hard had the second most-expensive youngster by a first season sire at Inglis, a $160,000 colt from the So You Think mare So You Beauty. The son of Written Tycoon has eight remaining after withdrawals, including a half-brother to Hareeba Stakes winner Jolie Blonde.

North Pacific: The stallion Ole Kirk denied in the Golden Rose of their three-year-old year will have 14 lots go through just a few weeks after having eight sell in Sydney, where the top lot was a filly who sold for $70,000. Among the Widden Victoria stallion's headline lots on the Gold Coast are half-brothers to G3 winners Meryl (Lot 30) and Fashion Legend (Lot 367) being offered.

BIVOUAC: The highest-rated racehorse of this crop of first-season sires – thanks to his G1 VRC Sprint Classic win in a Timeform rating of 128 – had a $130,000 lot at Inglis. Four of the Darley stallion's progeny will be offered this week, including a chestnut colt out of Group 1 placegetter O'Rachael (Lot 309).

RUSSIAN CAMELOT: The O'Rachael colt is one of only two youngsters out of Group 1 placegetters to be offered, the other also by a freshman sire in Russian Camelot. Telemon Thoroughbreds is offering the colt out of Foreplay mare Playtime (Lot 330), who ran third in a JJ Atkins. Telemon is also offering a colt out of El Mansura (Lot 150), who will become product of the son of Camelot to be offered for sale after his two Australian Weanling Sale entries were both withdrawn.

KING'S LEGACY: The Coolmore stallion had more entries than any other sire at Inglis, where he had a top lot of $140,000 and another sell for $110,000, and is again well-represented this week with 14 youngsters. 

Hanseatic: The son of Street Boss was one of Victoria's busiest sires in his first season, covering 195 mares at Rosemont Stud, six of which will be sold on the Gold Coast. Only had three weanlings go through in Sydney, but his colt out of Savabeel mare Adorabeel sold for $145,000, a mark bettered only by Farnan and Ole Kirk when it came to first-season sires.

WOOTTON BASSETT: Has made a blazing start to his career in the Northern Hemisphere, where he stands for the equivalent of around AU$150,000, and this crop is the result of his first season at Coolmore. Has six to be sold, including a filly out of a half-sister to Heatherly, who is the dam of Red Resistance (Lot 123).

EARTHLIGHT: The Gold Coast will be the first chance for buyers to get their hands on products of the Darley shuttler, who didn't have any weanlings sell in Sydney. He has three to be sold, including a colt out of Lonhro mare Euryale, who is from the family of one-time Golden Slipper favourite Profiteer (Lot 168).

Ghaiyyath is another Darley shuttler whose oldest Australian crop are weanlings and he has one youngster catalogued – a filly out of French mare Mandistana – while Graff, Peltzer, Admire Mars, Dirty Work, Lucky Vega, Prague, Cool Aza Beel, Fierce Impact, Time To Reign and Yulong Prince are the other first-season sires represented.
