Half-brother to former boom galloper to step out at Ballarat

More than six years after imported gelding Furrion burst onto the scene, the first of his siblings to race in Australia will make his debut at Ballarat on Wednesday.

Aqua Storm will step out for Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman in the $37,500 Pipe Pro Directional Drilling 3YO Maiden (1400m).

The son of Territories will carry the same Limerick Lane colours that Furrion carried to victory in six of his first seven starts in 2018, when he was considered one of Australia's most promising gallopers.

A son of Camelot, Furrion was bought by John Foote for 60,000 guineas at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale and the same agent paid three times that amount for Aqua Storm at the corresponding sale six years later.

Both Furrion and Aqua Storm are out of the Shamardal mare Acquainted, who has had four to race since Furrion with the only winner being Champs Elysees mare Love Explodes, who won over 2051m at Doncaster and has since been exported to Australia.

She came to Australia carrying a Camelot colt who is now a yearling, last year gave birth to a Toronado filly and is again in-foal to Toronado.

Aqua Storm, who was a February 8 foal, had two jumpouts at Pakenham in December, for a third placing over 750m and a win over 1000m, before a break and returned to the jumpouts last month.

He finished fifth over 800m on May 14 before a similarly low-key fourth placing over 1000m seven days later.

Blaike Mcdougall has the ride on Aqua Storm on debut with the pair to jump from barrier seven in the field of 13.

Aqua Storm holds down the $7.50 third line in the market headed by Tony and Calvin McEvoy-trained filly Sea Of Lights ($2.80).
