Trainer Michael Hickmott snapped up a colt from Showcasing for NZ$110,000.
South Australian-based trainer Michael Hickmott snapped up a colt from the last New Zealand crop of former Haunui Farm shuttler Showcasing (Oasis Dream) for NZ$110,000 from the Milan Park draft - the most expensive of the three lots he bought on Thursday.
Hickmott secured five yearlings from the Book 1 sale spending a total of NZ$940,000 with a top price of NZ$300,000 for a Vadamos (Monsun) colt from the family of multiple stakes winner Merion (O'Reilly) that was consigned through the Valachi Downs draft.
The South Australian-based trainer Hickmott said he was really taken with the colt and rated him as a potential Karaka 2YO Million (RL, 1200m) type.
The colt, who was catalogued as Lot 855, Wind Shear (Flying Spur) and Jackson (Not A Single Doubt).
Meanwhile, Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Marscay (Biscay) appears under the fourth dam.
Hickmott won a spirited bidding duel on behalf of one of his Melbourne owners along with some Hong Kong interests.
"I will be staying in the horse along with a good Melbourne client and some Hong Kong clients," Hickmott said.
"We'll get him going early and look to either get him back here for the Karaka Million or he will make a lovely colt to send to Hong Kong.
"Shaun Phelan will break him in here for me and we'll let the dust settle before we decide how soon to take him back to Australia.
"He will be up and going early and I was pleased to see there were a number of really good judges on him."
Grant Bennett of Milan Park said he was happy to see the colt make that sort of money and said he looked a natural two-year-old.
"Big strong colt who thinks he is charge but he is ready to go now." said Bennett. Take him to the breakers and straight into work. He is a natural two-year-old. I am not surprised to hear that the buyer sees him as a Karaka Million type.
"He was born and prepped on the farm. He was bred by Trish Dunell and the mare has an Ocean Park colt at foot and is in foal to Wrote."
The average has climbed from Day 1 of Book 2, settling at NZ$37,353 with the turnover reaching a total of NZ$7,993,500.
In a new sales format, the third and final day of Book 2 will commence Friday morning at 11am with Lot 1041 to 1150 going under the hammer.
