Mare offered in foal to Kingman makes $200,000
Dijiva - an unraced mare by High Chaparral (Sadler’s Wells) - topped the Inglis Digital May Sale after she was purchased by Tim Stakemire on behalf of Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum for $200,000.
Offered by Chatsworth Park in foal to exciting Juddmonte Farm-based sire Kingman (Invincible Spirit), the mare hails from one of the most sought after families in European Stud book, with Dijiva being out of Born Again (Cape Cross), who is herself a half-sister to champion mare Goldikova (Anabaa).
Born Again is also a half-sister to Group 1 winner Galikova (Galileo) and Group 3 winners Gold Sound (Green Tune), Gold Luck (Redoute’s Choice), Anodin (Anabaa) and Gold Round (Caerleon) - the dam of Group 3-winning trio Golden Valentine (Dalakhani), Goldwaki (Dalakhani) and Spectaculaire (Spectrum).
She was catalogued as Lot 429.
Stakemire said the mare would likely be mated to leading first-season sire Pride Of Dubai (Street Cry) - who was raced by Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Maktoum throughout his career.
“We are very pleased to have secured Djiva, considering she is well related and is carrying a particularly valuable pregnancy,” Stakemire said.
“She will likely visit Pride Of Dubai this spring – we are very excited about him given the positive impression made by his first runners this season – and the trainers seem to think that they will improve further with time and racing.
“It’s obviously early days in his stud career, but he could be the real deal.’’
Meanwhile, three time-winning filly Earth Song (Nicconi), whose most recent victory came in the Vale Caryl Williamson Handicap (1400m) at the Randwick Kensington track on May 20, looks set to join the soon to be re-established David Hayes stable in Hong Kong after she was snapped up for $175,000 to MC Melbourne Racing.
Earth Song - who was trained by Chris Waller - was offered by Darranda and catalogued as Lot 132.
The filly is out of three time-winning Strada (Danehill) mare Brookton Flare, who is herself out of four time winner Brookton Flash (Spartacus) - a half-sister to Group 1 winner Sincero (Umatilla).
“We’re very happy with the outcome, I thought it was a fair price for a good, young filly that has a lot of racing in front of her and a solid pedigree too,” owner Kevin Payne said.
“We had several phone calls from interested parties and the eventual buyer had her vet checked for Hong Kong late in the proceedings.
“She’s won three races for us with Chris Waller who has done a wonderful job with her, but we race a lot of horses and felt now was a good time to move her on.”
She was originally bought for $105,000 by Waltrin Pty Ltd from the draft of Holbrook Thoroughbreds at the 2018 Inglis Scone Yearling Sale.
The May Online Sale concluded Thursday evening with a second consecutive record gross of $4.75 million from 443 sold, which is a clearance rate of 75 per cent.
