A filly by Sea The Stars (Cape Cross) out of Listed winner Crafty (Manhattan Rain) added some Australian flavour to the first day of Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale as Sunderland Holdings went to 300,000gns to secure the Manister House Stud-consigned youngster.
Bred by Arrowfield Stud, Crafty won twice in her career headed by a victory in the Taj Rossi Series Final Handicap (Listed, 1600m) in 2014, while she also finished second in the Caulfield Classic (Gr 3, 2000m) later that year.
The daughter of Manhattan Rain (Encosta De Lago) has produced one winner from two to race and she is herself out of Spirited Dancer (Sadler’s Wells), making her a half-sister to Australian Group 3 winner Lunar Rise (Starcraft).
The filly’s third dam is Group 3 winner Petroleuse (Habitat) and she is also the dam of Grade 2 winner Peinture Bleue (Alydar), who produced dual Group 1 winner and successful sire Peintre Celebre (Nureyev), Group 2 winner Peinture Rare (Sadler’s Wells), Group 3 scorer Pointilliste (Giant's Causeway) and Listed winner Peinture Rose (Storm Cat). She was catalogued as Lot 103.
Danny O’Brien will be hoping that lightning can strike twice after going to 130,000gns, in conjunction with bloodstock agent Jeremy Brummitt, for a colt by Tamayuz (Nayef). Brummitt bought Russian Camelot (Camelot) for 120,000gns at the 2018 edition of the sale and he has gone on to win twice at the highest level so far in Australia.
The Tamayuz colt was offered as Lot 156 from the draft of Ballyhimikin Studis out of the Group 3 winning mare Fate (Teofilo) who is a half-sister to three-time Group 1 winner Pride (Peintre Celebre).
Earlier in the afternoon, O’Brien and Brummitt also paired up to purchase a filly by Newsells Park-based sire Nathaniel (Galileo) for 80,000gns.
Catalogued as Lot 126 and offered by Deerfield Farm, the filly is out of French Group 3 winner Dibajj (Iffraaj), who is herself a half-sister to Listed scorer Black Sea (Dubai Destination).
Meanwhile, Haras d’Etreham and Cambridge Stud teamed up to by an Almanzor (Wootton Bassett) colt late on in the day for 100,000gns. Catalogued as Lot 177 from the draft of Highclere, the colt is out of Listed winning mare Gemstone (Galileo) who has produced three winners to date headed by Listed winning colt UAE Jewel (Dubawi). This is also the family of Irish 2000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1m) winner Bachelor Duke (Miswaki) who is one of seven winners out of this colt’s dam Gossamer (Seattle Slew).
