Co-trainers hand Vinery Stud good result at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale
Co-trainers Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young handed Vinery Stud a memorable result at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale on Monday as they forked out $700,000 for a colt by Yarraman Park-based sire I Am Invincible (Invincible Spirit).
Catalogued as Lot 287, the colt is the first foal out of 2015 New Zealand 1,000 Guineas (Gr 1, 1600m) winner Risque (Darci Brahma).
Risque herself is out of stakes-placed So Explicit (Straight Strike), while further back this is the same pedigree as Listed winner Tycoon Tango (Last Tycoon) and Hong Kong Group 3 winner Amazing Kids (Falkirk).
Busuttin said he was expecting to have to pay that price for the yearling and said he looked like a really early two-year-old type.
“He is by the right stallion and he is the right type of colt, he looks a runner and a two-year-old so he has all the attributes that everyone wants,” said Busuttin. “He is out a Group 1-winning mare, so you never get them cheap.
“He is a short, compact horse that looks like he will be out early at two and hopefully he can be. He ticked all the boxes, but I paid enough for him, but they don’t miss them.”
The training partnership have spent $840,000 on three yearlings during the sale.
Meanwhile, Vinery Stud have sold seven yearlings for a gross of $1,240,000 at an average of $177,143 and Adam White said the New South Wales-based operation had wanted a standout yearling at Premier and was not surprised to see the colt be well found in the ring.
“I thought he would sell well and obviously quality colts with a pedigree like that, he had a number of people on him and with that sort of pedigree everybody wants them,” said White. “It was a terrific result.
“He is a good first foal and is a really sharp looking colt. He is a great mover and he is obviously by the right stallion, but Risque was a quality racemare too. She was a great filly in New Zealand before she came out here to Australia and she’s given us a really nice foal and hopefully with more to come.
“We really wanted a lead horse here at Premier, he was the one for us and he did his job.
“There’s going to be quite a few I Am Invincibles at Easter and this horse was easily good enough for there but we thought he might stand out a bit more here and he certainly did.’’
I Am Invincible has had six yearlings sell for total receipts of $1,950,000 over the first two days of trade, while he is leading the way in terms of average (with three or more lots sold) which is sitting at $325,000.
