Stakes-placed mare heads to be covered by Yes Yes Yes

Multiple stakes-placed mare Agueda handed Newgate Farm a good result at Sunday’s Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale when Brae Sokolski’s Yes Bloodstock went to $320,000 to secure the daughter of General Nediym (Nediym). 

Catalogued as Lot 328, the mare was owned by Newgate staff Jim Carey, Jackson Beirs, Rachel Safir and Leanna Packard and she was offered in foal to the farm’s hot young sire Capitalist (Written Tycoon) and will be covered by Coolmore Stud-based Everest (1200m)-winning stallion Yes Yes Yes (Rubick), who Sokolski raced in partnership throughout this career. 

The mare has already produced one winner to date and it is the second time this year Sokolski has bought into the family, with the owner pairing up with Astute Bloodstock to buy the mare’s fourth living foal by Star Turn for $310,000 at this year’s Inglis Classic Yearling Sale. 

The filly is in training with Sydney-based handler Annabel Neasham and Matt Scown - who assists Sokolski with his bloodstock portfolio - said the trainer has high hopes for the filly.   

“She was a lovely foal by General Nediym and we’ve bought her for Yes Yes Yes. We bought her filly by Star Turn at the Classic Sale and she is in training with Annabel Neasham and she loves her. 

“The mare throws good sorts so hopefully she will match up well with Yes Yes Yes. Obviously she is in foal to Capitalist and he is the super hot stallion at the moment and we are rapt to be able to buy a mare in foal to him. He will probably be kept to race, but we will make a decision on that when she foals.”

Yes Bloodstock also purchased winning Toronado (High Chaparral) mare Backpedal on Sunday for $90,000 from the Yarraman Park draft and Sokolski said he was making a conscious effort to try and improve the depth of his burgeoning broodmare band with better quality mares. 

“When we bought the filly at Classic, I absolutely loved her as a physical so I know this mare can produce quality types so it’s nice to be able to call her mine now,’’ Sokolski said.

“She’s a natural fit for us because I’m looking to improve and enhance my broodmare band with more quality and proven mares, so the fact she was in foal to Capitalist was just a bonus.

“I’ve got a lot of younger mares, but we want some more proven mares who we know can throw a nice type and she fits that bill.’’

Newgate Farm’s Henry Field said that he was happy to see the mare be purchased by Yes Bloodstock and rated her the best mare in the sale. 

“It was a great result for them, she’s a very pretty mare, a beautiful mare with the right covering in her,’’ said Field. 

“I think she’ll be a really good mare for Yes Bloodstock, they’re very smart operators those guys, they’ve bought the best mare in the sale.’’

Newgate Farm have enjoyed a successful week as vendors, selling eight mares for an aggregate of $6,055,000 at an average of $756,875 at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale on Friday, finishing the evening as the leading vendor by gross. 

On Sunday they finished up having sold 11 of their offering for total receipts of $1,086,000m while their average was recorded as $98,727 and Field said he was very satisfied with the week’s results. 

“It’s been a great week,” he said. “We worked really hard to build a blue chip consignment in the Chairman’s Sale and were the leading vendor by twice the amount of the next best vendor.

“We’ve worked really hard to build our brand and our business around a consignment of the highest level of bloodstock with absolute transparency in everything we do, as buyers and sellers and we’ve been rewarded by the market that has supported us well.

“Inglis should be commended on a terrific execution of the week. From the weanlings through to the Chairman’s and now the broodmares, it’s all been brilliant.’’
