Millions winner and three-time G1 runner-up retires one of Snitzel’s best.

News of Away Game 's retirement means the Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained mare never did get the Group 1 victory she always seemed destined for.

But that's not to suggest she was not a Group 1 performer.

The daughter of Snitzel was a regular at the highest level from the earliest opportunity with her biggest wins coming in the $2.5 million Restricted Listed Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) and G2 Percy Sykes Stakes (1200m).

But she also finished second in the Golden Slipper (1200m), Oakleigh Plate (1100m) and Sangster Stakes (1200m) at Group 1 level.

They were performances that helped her amass $3,243,975 in stakes, which is the most by a daughter of one of Australia's great stallions.

Only Redzel ($16,414,000) and Trapeze Artist ($5,558,750) sit above Away Game, who is out of the Elusive Quality mare Elusive Wonder, on the list of Snitzel's all-time top earners.

Only three other daughters of the Arrowfield stallion have a higher peak Timeform rating than her 116, which came via her second placing in last year's Listed Christmas Stakes (1100m), when she carried 58.5kg and beat home all bar the flying Marabi.

Snitzerland (121), Sweet Idea (120) and Estijaab (118) are the four-time Australian Champion Sire's daughters with a higher peak rating than Away Game's.

She also rated 115 when second in this year's Oakleigh Plate with her peak winning performance being the 114+ she returned in her Percy Sykes Stakes success.

With her retirement confirmed, Away Game will be readied for an appointment with Written Tycoon, the star stallion at Yulong, which paid for $4 million for Away Game at this year's Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.
