Two lots sell for 90,000gns on Friday at Book 3 concludes at Park Paddocks
Fillies accounted for the three most expensive lots to sell at Park Paddocks on Friday during the second and final session of Book 3 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.
Two fillies sold for 90,000gns, the most expensive lots of the day, the first of these being a daughter of Ten Sovereigns (No Nay Never) who was bought by Rabbah Bloodstock. Sold as Lot 1708, the Oakgrove Stud-sold filly is out of Listed winner Lady Grace (Orpen) who has produced four winners including Listed scorer Penmaen (Pivotal).
"She is for trainer Ismail Mohammed," said Joe Stone of Rabbah Bloodstock. "We have been trying all week and last week, and really wanted a filly. She is a really nice type, and by a good first season sire. We also bought two in Book 1."
Rabbah Bloodstock was the leading buyer in Book 3, spending 557,000gns on 13 lots.
David Hilton, stud manager of Oakgrove, was at the sales ring to watch the filly go through and said: "The filly is a bit of a standout - she has a pedigree, the mare does not miss, she is a half-sister to two Stakes horses, she is a good physical and moves well. We are delighted with the price, but I think she deserved to make that as well. She could have been earlier in the sale and we just stood out today."
Later on in the day Dwayne Woods of Brook Stud bought Lot 1959, a daughter of Aclaim (Acclamation) for 90,000gns. The dilly is out of unarmed Kodiac (Danehill) mare Epping Rose who is now the dam of stakes placed juvenile Washington Heights (Washington DC), and will be trained by Dwayne's brother Sean.
"The mare has had a great catalogue update, the filly is very nice and is the first by Aclaim that I have bought. She goes to my brother Sean," said Woods.
She was sold by breeder Bearstone Stud and the farm's owner Terry Holdcroft commented: "There was a lot of interest in the filly, the update obviously helped but she is a very, very nice filly in her own right. She was vetted quite a few times. Aclaim has done very well and she is young mare, so it is great."
Aclaim, sire of Group 1 1000 Guineas (1m) winner Cachet, was previously based at The National Stud in Newmarket but will stand at Manton Park Stud this season.
After two days of selling 473 of the 553 lots offered sold, producing a clearance rate of 86 per cent. The aggregate rose nine per cent from last year to 11,554,600gns for two more lots sold this year. The average was also up nine per cent from 22,491gns to 24,428gns while the median increased 11 per cent to 20,000gns.
Havana Grey finished the sale as the leading sire by average with 13 lots selling for 696,000gns at an average of 53,538gns. Croom House Stud was the leading vendor by average with three lots selling at an average of 60,667gns while Whitsbury Manor Stud led the way by aggregate, selling 11 yearlings for 572,000gns.
At the conclusion of the 2022 Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony commented; "This has been the most extraordinary Tattersalls October Yearling Sale. Book 1 set the ball rolling and it has rolled all the way through to the very end with more yearlings sold than ever before for the astounding sum of 199 million guineas.
"It has been a phenomenal show of strength from start to finish with buyers from throughout the world drawn to Tattersalls and the unique environment of Newmarket by the promise of outstanding yearlings presented by so many of the top breeders and consignors not only from Britain and Ireland, but from throughout Europe."
