Son of Gimmethegreenlight secured for R3.8 million to top the one day sale 

The one day Cape Premier Yearling Sale on Thursday was topped by a colt named Valley Of the Kings (Gimmethegreenlight) who was bought by the Hong Kong Jockey Club for R3.8 million. 

Offered late in the day as Lot 107 and sold by Andreas Jacobs' Maine Chance Farms, the colt is out of the Listed winning and Grade 3 placed mare Victoria Lavelle (Captain Al). The colt's fourth dam is the German Listed winner Carmelita (Surumu) who produced eight winners headed by the German multiple Group winner Caballo (Konigsstuhl). 

The colt was bought by Justin Vermaak on behalf of the Hong Kong Jockey Club who finished the sale as the leading vendor with their sole purchase. Vermaak was next on the buyers table spending R3,450,000 on five yearlings. 

Main Chance Farms finished the sale as the leading vendor by average, selling 10 yearlings for R7325,000 at an average of R732,500. 

The second most expensive lot sold was a colt called Handsome Prince (Querari) who was bought by UK-based bloodstock agent Amanda Skiffington for R200,000. The colt is the second foal out of Listed winner Maleficent (Judpot) who is herself a half-sister to fellow Listed winner Blackball (Black Minnaloushe). 

During the one day sale 101 of the 109 lots offered sold for R44,825,000. The average finished at R443,812 and the median was R300,000. 

Klawervlei Stud was the leading vendor having sold 18 yearlings for R10,175,000 at an average of R565,278.
