Zelzal colt sells for €270,000 one of 21 lots to sell for six figures

For the third consecutive year, the Tattersalls Ireland Goresbridge Breeze Up Sale broke records. The one-day sale on Friday saw 199 of the 239 two-year-olds offered sell for a record turnover of €8,563,500. The aggregate broke the €8 million barrier for the first time in the sale's history. The average rose 13 per cent to €43,033 and the record rose 36 per cent to €30,000. 

The most expensive lot to sell was a colt by Zelzal (Sea The Stars) who was bought by Peter and Ross Doyle Bloodstock for €270,000. The colt is out of the unraced Medaglia d'ora (El Prado) mare Al Hamla. His second dam is Group 3 winner Genuine Devotion (Rock Of Gibraltar), while this is also the family of Mastercraftsman (Danehill Dancer). 

"He is an outstanding physical, he boxed dramatically above his weight on his breeding when he breezed. He did it in a nice way, and he was not flat out and what I saw visually impressed me," said Ross Doyle. 

"He was magnificently turned out and looked fantastic, the lads have done a good job. He is for an established client and it looks like he is going to France, the sire has been going well out there."

The colt had been bought as a yearling for €30,000 and was sold on Friday by Donovan Bloodstock. 

The session topping colt was one of four lots to sell for €200,000 or more, with Avenue Bloodstock going to €240,000 for a son of Sioux Nation (Scat Daddy). The second horse offered in the ring yesterday, the colt is out of winning Acclamation (Royal Applause) mare Omanome. 

Coolmore Stud's Sioux Nation was the sale's leading sire with four lots selling for €550,000 at an average of €137,500. 

Blandford Bloodstock finished the sale as the leading buyer having spent €805,000 on nine lots. The leading vendor was Tally-Ho Stud who sold 19 juveniles for €852,000 while Tradewinds Stud led the way by average, selling three lots at an average of €90,000.
