Life Is Good takes out Sham Stakes at Santa Anita.
The Bob Baffert-trained Life Is Good (3 c ex Beach Walk by Distorted Humor) captured Saturday's Sham Stakes (Gr 3, 8f) at Santa Anita, providing his Spendthrift Farm-based sire Into Mischief (Harlan's Holiday) with his 84th stakes winner.
Raced by WinStar Farm and China Horse Club, Life Is Good scored a three quarter length victory over Medina Sprint (Prontonico) and in winning earned ten points on the Road to the Kentucky Derby.
"He's just very, very talented," winning jockey Mike Smith said. "We don't know yet how talented. We haven't gotten close yet."
Bred by Gary and Mary West Stables, the winner was bought by China Horse Club and Maverick Racing for US$525,000 at the 2019 Keeneland September Yearling Sale from the draft of Paramount Sales. Life Is Good is the second foal and winner out of Beach Walk (Distorted Humor) with her other winner being Approved (Awesome Again).
The fellow Baffert-trained Authentic, who is also by Into Mischief, won last year's running of the Sham Stakes and went on to win the Kentucky Derby (Gr 1, 9f). He is one of eight Grade 1 winners for the sire who has a strike rate of 11 per cent stakes winner to runners.
Into Mischief's 2021 fee at Spendthrift Farm has been set at US$225,000.
