More Australian Success In Souith Africa

3 minute read

The triple success last weekend of Australian-bred runners in South African feature races has been followed more good results for Australian breeders.

Royal Zulu Guard won the Listed Michael Roberts Handicap at Scottsville on Sunday. The gelding is a $62,500 purchase from the 2010 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale for Worldwide Bloodstock’s Andy Williams from the Glastonbury Farms draft for owner Roy Moodley.

Other Australian imports Casadesus (High Chaparral), a $75,000 2013 Inglis Melbourne Premier graduate and Playingtheenemy (Teofilo), a 2011 Magic Millions $45,000 National Weanling Sale purchase, kept up the flow of winners with restricted race victories at Kenilworth on Saturday.

Earlier in the week 4YO mare Royalsecuritybaby (Choisir), a $34,000 purchase from the 2011 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale, scored at Fairview along with Soul Sacrifice ($57,500 2011 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale), also by Choisir.

The Redoute’s Choice 3YO Mootahadee saluted at Vaal.

Mootahadee’s trainer Mike de Kock, meanwhile, confirms another of his Redoute’s Choice 3YOs, the star filly Majmu, remains in the running for the Triple Tiara series after earlier being ruled a non-starter in South Africa’s oldest feature race, the Group 1 J&B Met which is run on January 31 at Kenilworth.

Two Australian-bred runners are nominated in the race - Killua Castle and Readytogorightnow.

Majmu confirmed her status as one of South Africa’s best gallopers with a brilliant victory in last month’s Group 1 Cape Fillies’ Guineas and is likely to embark on an international campaign after her current preparation.
