Champion sire Redoute’s Choice has reached a new milestone with his first Group winner in Japan.

The 5YO entire Fluky (Redoute’s Choice x Sunday Smile by Sunday Silence) also became the 80th individual Group winner by the son of Danehill with his win in the G3 Challenge Cup over 1800m at Hanshin on Saturday.

Vavasour, a classy daughter of Redoute’s Choice, won the G3 Waikato Cup (2400m) at Te Rapa in New Zealand on Saturday to go with her win in last month’s G3 Counties Cup (2100m).

Vavasour was found to be in season on race morning and gave her stable plenty of concerns.

“It was quite nerve-wracking really, but she’s come out and done the job,” said Peter Williams, who prepares the mare with his wife Dawn and Paul Richards.

The trio also prepared Natuzzi (Coats Choice) to win the Listed J Swap Contractors Sprint on the Te Rapa program.

Vavasour (Redoute’s Choice x Valpolicella by Red Ransom) was sold by Haunui Farm at 2013 NZB National Yearling Sale Premier Session at Karaka to GC Beemsterboer for $NZ425,000.

• GROUP One sprinter Natuzzi completed a fine comeback from serious illness, the seven-year-old having undergone colon surgery earlier this year.

“It’s good to have him back,” said Paul Richards. “You should have seen him seven months ago, he was skin and bone.”

Richards joined Peter and Dawn Williams in a training partnership at Byerley Park in the spring.

Natuzzi will head to the G1 Railway Stakes at Ellerslie on New Year’s Day without another run.

Natuzzi also holds a nomination for January’s G1 Telegraph Handicap at Trentham. He was second in the Telegraph in 2014.

Waikato Cup (G3)

WT: 53kg Type: OPEN

The G3 Waikato Cup (2400m) was not a vintage field at all and only eleven went around with the lone rising force in the field Vavasour scoring easily. She has size and needed it after rising today on a last start G3 win a staggering 6kg into this G3 field and 59kg is plenty for a 4yo mare. Vavasour settled outside the pace and once shaken up grabbed the lead at the 200m repelling her opposition by a length and a half and clocking 2:27.98, which is not too bad albeit on a day they went almost all decent times. It was the fifth win in fifteen starts and her second Cup in a row having captured the G3 Counties Cup (2100m) prior. The Tidy Express ran on well for second while Decorah found the line well for third considering she carried 60kg. Storming The Tower ran a bold fourth and the John Bell stable are really firing at the moment coming into this important time, the summer season. Mister Impatience was good from the back as first to move a fair way out and sustained his finish so he could pick up a 3200m event at either Trentham or Ellerslie while in New Zealand. Apache Fireworks was okay and an improver while Saint Emilion after leading stopped like a tired horse. Delago’s Secret ran on late and is very close to another win but needs a roomier track and a stronger clip up front. Vavasour will be WFA from now on in New Zealand and may appear in Australia over the autumn chasing the richer stakes and more prestigious blacktype. Her racing pattern does mean bad luck is taken out of the equation.
