Drakenstein Stud’s resident sire Trippi has been crowned South Africa’s Champion Sire for the 2015-2016 season.
The son of End Sweep ended the season with 112 winners earning R18 666 925.
He beat former champion sire Silvano by just R195,800 to claim his first General Sires title.Captain Al, who picked up his eighth consecutive 2YO sires title, Dynasty and Kahal rounded out the top five stallions on the General Sires List.
Trippi was represented by 11 individual black type winners with his top performers including triple G1 winning filly Inara and G1 City Of Pietermaritzburg Fillies Sprint winner Real Princess.Other notable performers to represent Trippi included G1 Summer Cup runner up Deo Juvente, Trip To Heaven, who was first past the post in the G1 Rising Sun Challenge but was demoted to second, G2 winner Triptique and G3 winner Fromafar.
Trippi is also the sire of Illuminator, who won the inaugural CTS Million Dollar, and top class 2YO filly Dawn Calling, runner up in both the G1 Thekwini Stakes and G2 Golden Slipper.Captain Al dominated the 2YO Sires list, finishing nearly R1 million clear of runner up Var and with three times the number of stakes winners (6) than any other sire of 2YOs.
Varsfontein Stud’s hot young sire Gimmethegreenlight was South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire for 2015-2016.A son of More Than Ready, Gimmethegreenlight ended the season with his 2YOs having won 16 races earning R1,776,762.
Gimmethegreenlight finished well clear of Philanthropist, Pathfork, Bold Silvano and Gitano Hernando on the first season sires list.Mauritzfontein Stud’s late champion sire Fort Wood picked up his second consecutive Broodmare Sires title.
The son of Sadler’s Wells’ had 12 stakes winners among his daughters winning 17 stakes races earning R21,561,762, nearly R8 million more than runner up Western Winter.Top performers out of Fort Wood mares included the G1 winners Noah From Goa, Real Princess and Marinaresco.
