The G1-wininng trainer produced first starters Hasselhoof (Tavistock) and Silencer (Falkirk) for a maiden quinella over 1400m after she was forced to run the pair in the same race.

Silencer was supposed to have made his debut in another maiden event on the program but an office mistake resulted in the pair going head to head.

“It cost us dearly,” Logan said. “I’ll be looking after both of them as they’ve got very bright futures.”

Hasselhoof, from the Zabeel mare Alpine, had given a taste of his ability with two trial wins and showed class to run his down his stablemate.

He is a half-brother to the Listed Wairarapa Thoroughbred Breeders’ Stakes winner Vercors (Catbird), who was also G2 placed in the Travis Stakes.

Hasselhoof was bred by Peter and Philip Vela was purchased by Logan from their Pencarrow Stud draft at the 2013 Karaka Select Yearling Sale for only $NZ14,000.

“I love these Tavistocks,” Logan said. “This one is a big, leggy horse and he’ll stay.

“He was very green and was only doing half pace.”

Tavistock, leading second crop sire in NZ, has chalked up an impressive record in black type races this season.

He is the sire of nine stakes performers and has had four runners tackle black type races in Australia this season and all have won or been placed.

They are led by Volkstok'n'barrell (Won G1 Rosehill Guineas; 3rd G1 ATC Derby); Werther (Won G2 Eagle Farm Cup; 2nd G1 Queensland Derby; 2nd G1 South Australian Derby); Imperial Lass (3rd G1 Queensland Oaks, 3rd Listed Ethereal Stakes) and Diamond Valores (2nd G2 Gloaming Stakes).

Tavistock has had only 10 runners in Australia for seven winners.
