Chris Waller’s New Zealand connections made a big contribution to his final day treble that carried him to a new Sydney training record at Rosehill on Saturday.
Waller went into the meeting with 166 metropolitan wins in Sydney the season, needing another two to beat the record of 167.5 that he set in 2012-13.
At the end of the day he had three winners and a new record with two of his victories recorded by horses sourced from the Karaka sale ring.Win number 167 came courtesy of the NZB Premier Sale graduate Harlem Lady, a daughter of Zabeel.
Locally-bred Sebring filly Pioneering became Waller’s 168th winner before Marenostro, ar Karaka weanling sale graduate by Duelled, capped the day with his win in the feature $150,000 Winter Challenge (1500m).The win was Marenostro’s 10th from 29 career starts, boosting his earnings to $455,550, some 22 times more than the $20,000 he cost when he went through the sale ring at the 2011 National Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale at Karaka where he was purchased by Phil Cataldo from the draft of Dormello Stud for $20,000.
The 5YO Marenostro (Duelled x Maybe Yes by Last Tycoon) provided his sire Duelled, a son of Redoute’s Choice, with his third stakes winner.Marenostro’s dam Maybe Yes is a prolific producer of 10 winners from 13 foals to race that include four stakes performers led by G1 Avondale Gold Cup winner The Mighty Lions (Grosvenor).
The ohers are the Singapore stakes performer Promise Keeper (Success Express) and the Listed performer Grandissima (Savabeel).Harlem Lady, by Zabeel out of the multiple stakes-winning mare Jazzella (Black Minnaloushe), was offered by Cambridge Stud at the 2013 NZ Premier Sale at Karaka where she was bought by Waller Racing for $140,000.
She has now had three wins from 14 starts and earned $168,450 in stakes.
