The world's top-ranked sprinter Lankan Rupee carried his sire Redoute's Çhoice to the top of the Australian General Sires’ premiership at Randwick on Saturday with his superb performance in the $2.5 million TJ Smith Stakes.
Other progeny by Redoute’s Choice backed up Lankan Rupee with other notable Group performances on Saturday to take the champion sire’s prizemoney tally for the season to over $8.7 million.
He has overtaken his son Snitzel ($8.2 million) to end his six months reign at the head of the premiership table.
Lankan Rupee (Redoute’s Choice x Estelle Collection by Stravinsky) is now a firm favourite to be named Australian Horse of the Year honours after landing his third successive Group One sprint at his first start in Sydney.
The brilliant four-year-old has won six races in succession since being gelded including the G1 Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield and the G1 Newmarket Handicap at Flemington for a career tally of nine wins from 16 starts and prizemoney of $2.85 million for owner-breeder Muzaffar Yaseen's Teeley Assets.
He also added to the great success Redoute's Choice has enjoyed in the TJ Smith Stakes, being his third winner in five years after Melito (2010) and Master Of Design (2012).
In Adelaide Redoute’s Choice sired his 112th stakeswinner when another Teeley Assets owned and bred runner Tango's Daughter ( Redoute’s Choice x Tango Fire by Anabaa) won the Listed H.C. Nitschke Stakes.
Tango's Daughter and Lankan Rupee were both foaled and reared at Arrowfield Stud, which will present the Teeley Dispersal of breeding stock at next month’s Magic Millions National Sale at the Gold Coast.
The dispersal will include Lankan Rupee’s dam Estelle Collection in foal to Redoute's Choice.
Teeley Assets who raced both Redoute’s Choice and Estelle Collection, a G3 winner from the family of G1 champions and sires Grosvenor (Sir Tristram) and Lonhro (Octagonal).
She went back to Redoute’s Choice last spring after foaling a filly by his half-brother Manhattan Rain (Encosta De Lago).
Redoute's Choice's also enjoyed G1 success as a broodmare sire at Randwick on Saturday as he is sire of Iguazu’s Girl, dam of the $3 million Doncaster Mile winner Sacred Falls (O’Reilly).
By winning his second successive Doncaster in Sacred Falls took his earnings to $3,640,715 from eight wins in 18 starts.
A $NZ160,000 purchase at the 2011 New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale by Guy Mulcaster Bloodstock, Sacred Falls is one of 73 stakes winners and 12 G1 winners by O’Reilly, who is set to win the NZ sires’ premiership this season..
Sacred Falls carries duplications of the excellent mares Natalma (Native Dancer) and Best In Show (Traffic Judge), and is a three quarter brother to the G3 winner Splashing Out (O’Reilly).
His dam Iguazu’s Girl is from the dual Group winner Iguazu (Carolingian).
