Mossman 3YO WIns Tattersalls Mile

3 minute read

Impressive Mossman three-year-old Crack Me Up proved he is the star of the late Brisbane winter with his second successive black type win in Saturday’s Listed Tattersall’s Mile at Doomben.

The Liam Birchley-trained gelding won the G3 Sunshine Coast Guineas at his previous start and easily managed the step up to open company against more seasoned older horses.

Birchley said he has always had faith in Crack Me Up to make the grade.

"He has proven me right winning the Sunshine Coast Guineas and now another Listed race to go with his win in the Dalrello Stakes last year," Birchley said.

“He’ll go for a break but there’s a lot of upside to him. He’s very versatile so I’m really looking forward to the summer.

"There isn't anything in the Magic Millions series to suit him but there is the Villiers Stakes or even Summer Cup in Sydney and the Bernborough Handicap in Brisbane.

"I am keen to give him a chance in races at least over 2000 metres.”

Crack Me Up (Mossman x Chuckle by Danehill) has now won three races and with four placings in 16 starts for prize money of $287,700.

He is one of seven winning foals from the Listed-winning and G2 placed Chuckle, a three-quarter sister to the dam of NZ G2 winner Lady Royale (Captain Rio).

Crack Me Up. a brother to the US G3 winner Hoofit, has as his second dam Clowning, a Rory’s Jester three-quarter sister to G2 winner Catnipped (Rory’s Jester) and Listed winner Miss Prospect (Rory’s Jester).

Miss Prospect is the dam of G1 Blue Diamond Stakes winner and sire Reward For Effort (Exceed And Excel).

Crack Me Up is one of 35 stakes winners by Mossman (Success Express) whose progeny include five G1 winners led by top class sprinter Buffering and Golden Slipper Stakes winner Mossfun.

Casino Prince sired his 15th stakes winner when the well-named Geoff Durrant and Jason Miller-trained Jackpot Prince ran home strongly to win the Listed Belmont Classic in Perth on Saturday.

Jackpot Prince (Casino Prince x Transit of Venus by Galileo) was third in the Listed Aquanita Stakes at the same track at his previous start and has now won four of his 11 career starts for prize money of $108,075.

He is one of four named foals out of the unraced Galileo mare Transit Of Venus, making him a half-brother to the winning mare Vindicator (Hold That Tiger).

His second dam Crown Jewels (Twig Moss) is a three-quarter sister to the dam of G3 winners Diamond Cashel (Sir Tristram) and Our Cashel (Sir Tristram) and is a half-sister to G2 winner Double Your Bet (Palace Music) and G3 winner Diamond Dane (Danehill).

Jackpot Prince’s third dam is the G1 VRC Oaks winner Diamond Shower (Zephyr Zip).

The David Brideoake-trained 2YO colt Terry provided his sire Trusting with his first stakes winner with his success in the Listed Oaklands Plate at Morphettville on Saturday.

Terry (Trusting x Kendall Lass by Sadler's Wells) is now unbeaten in two starts, having won on debut at Pakenham in June.

His unraced dam Kendall Lass has produced three named foals but Terry is the only one to race to date.

Terry’s second dam is the French Listed winner Maid Of Dawkins (Kendor), a half-sister to the G1 Italian Gran Criterium winner Night Style (Night Shift). She produced four winners from six foals to race.

His third dam is the stakes placegetter Style For Life (Law Society), a half-sister to the Irish Derby winner Grey Swallow (Daylami) and G3 winner Moonlight Dance (Sinndar).

Smart Liam Birchley-trained three-year-old Crack Me Up followed his good win in the Sunshine Coast Guineas (Gr 3, 1600m) on 1 July with another good stakes victory here. He settled in sixth place, one off the rails, was shuffled back to eighth before moving up (deep) rounding the home turn. He then ran on resolutely, finishing too well to score narrowly but in good style against older opposition. Cruising Speed raced in seventh place, on the rails, angled deeper between runners at the home turn. She challenged at the 100m and then fought gamely for a good second. Pindan Pearl had a nice trip in third place on the rails, briefly got to the front at 100 metres and she then held on to take the minor place. Glendara was back in ninth place, on the rails, and made late ground for (2.4 lengths) fourth while the favourite Sheiswhatsheis showed her customary pace to lead, set a good tempo, but was overtaken nearing the 100m before finishing (2.6 lengths) fifth after running a bold race.
