Racing and Sports finds the best-backed runners in early betting on Wednesday’s meeting at Balaklava.

Clandarbhen (Race 4) offers good each way value at $7, which is almost a full 10 points shorter than his initial price. His latest runs have been in Saturday grade in Adelaide so he enjoys a significant drop in grade today.

Really Edgy (Race 6) is challenging for favouritism at $3.80 having firmed a full point since markets opened. He has been in good form of late, finishing runner up last time after a heavy track win so should get through today’s conditions well.

Cavaloce (Race 7) has shortened more than three points to $4.40 and at that price is the new favourite for the Balaklava Cup. She has been in stakes company at her last two for a Listed third and G3 fourth and won her previous two runs in Adelaide.

After racing quite consistently without winning since July last year, nine-year-old gelding Little Akie broke through for a win in this Listed race. He raced towards the tail of the 16-horse field, improved between runners on straightening, got a split at the 200m and then came late run to grab a good win in the last few strides. Excites Zelady had a good trip in fourth place, challenged at the 200m and kept battling on well for a close second while Our Exchange raced outside the leader (Riziz), went to the front at the 200m and she then fought on well for a close-up third.
