The Money Trail – Caulfield, January 26

Racing and Sports finds the best-backed runners in early betting on Thursday’s meeting at Caulfield.

Kenedna (Race 2) has tightened her grip on favouritism at $2.40 with good support seeing her firm more than two points in early betting. She won at Echuca two runs back then worked home well for fourth at Flemington last time so looks to have found a winnable race.

Wait For No One (Race 3) is the one punters want early, the Debutant Stakes winner firming close to two points to take over as favourite at $3. Along with his debut stakes win the colt also ran third in the Maribyrnong Plate in the spring and that experience should hold him in good stead.

Stellar Collision (Race 8) opened at each way odds but is now the market elect at $4.20 after almost halving his opening quote. The gelding has been unplaced at all four runs this campaign but has blinkers back on today and punters are hoping the gear change will do the trick.

Promising Robert Smerdon-trained gelding Property, who raced a bit greenly when second on debut at Caulfield on 7 January, benefitted from that experience to score a very smart win here. He travelled well in sixth place, one off the rails, put in a good run rounding the home turn, took the lead at the 100m and then drew clear to win impressively, sprinting his last 600m in a fast 33.00. The Tony McEvoytrained colt Azazel resumed after two prior starts and staged a good first up effort. He settled in eighth place, one off the rails, moved up at the home turn, but then took a while to wind up before coming with good run to take second in a photo. Indernile went back from his outside barrier (10) and raced in last place in the ten-horse field to the turn and caught the eye running on late for third in a promising debut run while the favourite Wait For No One worked a bit in early stages from his good barrier (2) to hold the lead and then led the field until the 100m before weakening to finish (3.6 lengths) sixth.
