Local Shoots For Hat Trick

3 minute read

In form galloper Full Peal can bring up a winning hat trick in today's Pearsons Nursery Handicap (race 6) at Warrnambool.

The gelding, prepared on the course by Bill and Simon Wilde, has won four of 11 career runs but has dominated at his last two and looks well placed over 1700m at home in RB72 grade.

This campaign he resumed over 1200m at Traralgon in heavy ground where he settled midfield in the small field and worked home steadily to finish third.

He then returned here over 1300m and after settling just off the leading bunch strode into the race and ran away with a soft 3.8 length win.

He was then tested at 1715m for the first time at Geelong in an RB68. Settling third in the run and racing there throughout, he sprinted away in the straight to record a three length win.

While this is up a grade he has done nothing to suggest he won't measure up and returns home for the same journey.

Winning rider Andrew Mallyon stays aboard an he has drawn well to be camped just off the speed again.

Full Peal is clearly the one to beat again.

Stablemate Constant Force is early in his campaign but looks the biggest danger.

The lightly raced gelding also has a good overall record, last campaign winning three of his last four runs.

He scored over 1800m at Horsham by leading throughout then two starts later did the same over 1900m at Geelong with a big weight.

Last run before a spell, again on the all weather at Geelong, he raced on the speed and wound up strongly to score again.

After a good spell he resumed over 1400m at Hamilton in this class where he raced on the speed and boxed on well but found one better on the day, finishing runner up to Scaredymac.

He is fitter and is a second up winner. The trip suits and he should give a big sight in the small field .

Another who will be hard to run down is St James Lane.

The Jason Warren-trained gelding won fresh up over 1469m at Kyneton then stepped up to this journey at Geelong where he led throughout to score.

Last start, in this grade over 1770m at Pakenham, he struck a heavy track and after settling just off the pace boxed on well but could manage only fourth behind Scenic Find.

He is suited with firmer footing today and the class and trip suits.

He has drawn well, fitter again and will take running down.

The Fonz is trained on the course and is very close to a win but just never seems to be able to break through.

The gelding has finished fourth in the St Arnaud and Mortlake Cups at his last two so will appreciate coming back a grade.

The trip suits but surprisingly has never won on his home course.
