The Messina Nymph is expected to take plenty of beating in the Wyong R.C Function Centre Class 1 on Thursday.

The Tony McEvoy-trained filly resumes after an encouraging spring campaign where she broke maiden status before placing in the Crockett Stakes at Moonee Valley.

The strength of that form is hard to ignore, particularly when she is resuming in a Class 1 at Wyong on Thursday.

The Messina Nymph looks poised for an easy kill first up based on both prior raceday form and an encouraging trial win at Rosehill over 900m.

She holds a six pound margin over her nearest rival on weight adjusted ratings and a master Timeform figure of 95 suggests The Messina Nymph will go onto bigger and better things than a Wyong Class 1.

To be ridden by Tony McEvoy, The Messina Nymph should settle handy from barrier 2, perhaps outside the early leader.

It should be a case of class prevailing in the straight.

In terms of provincial Class 1 Handicaps, the Wyong R.C Function Centre Handicap shapes as an above average contest where a few other promise sorts can at the very least keep The Messina Nymph honest.

Runway Star has been given time to mature since a two start maiden campaign last spring.

She was a debut winner at Gosford where the Northern Meteor filly got by on raw ability alone however was found to be coughing when rolled as favourite in her next outing at Rosehill.

The Gerald Ryan-trained filly is the anticipated leader of this contest and will take catching.

Runway Star on disclosed form rates as the main danger although was accounted for by The Messina Nymph when the pair clashed at the Rosehill trials on March 31.

Swing Vote and Glenbawn Dame can also make their presence’s felt after their respective last start placings.

Earlier in her preparation though, the lean would be toward Swing Vote who is arguably open to further improvement third run from a spell.
