Kiwi Karma Primed For Winning Return

3 minute read

The multiple Group winner from the Michael Clements stable looks well placed in race seven, a benchmark 89 over 1100 metres after some fine Group 1 performances when last in work.

Kiwi Karma raced among Singapore’s best last campaign, finishing on the heels of the placegetters when fourth in two Group 1 features, the Lion City Cup and the Krisflyer International Sprint.

Kiwi Karma has won six of 14 starts and has won up to Group 2 level, boasting formlines that none of her rivals here can match.

The Fast ‘n’ Famous mare’s performance when fourth in the Krisflyer comes under particular notice here after finishing just 3.8 lengths of star sprinter Aerovelocity.

She showed her customary dash on that occasion to sit just behind the leaders before throwing down a challenge on the bend and while she weakened in the run home her fighting effort at the elite level had plenty of merit.

Her previous effort in the Lion City Cup showed similar heart in running a 0.3 length fourth to another topliner in War Affair.

On that occasion she hit the front in the straight but couldn’t withstand the final sprint of the classy chasing brigade.

Her challengers on Friday night are not in the same league as that illustrious group and she holds a distinct edge on her rivals using Timeform weight adjusted ratings.

On form Kiwi Karma would be entitled to give her rivals weight but her 59kg co-topweight is offset by the three kilogram allowance of Kif Toh, seeing the mare attractively placed at 56kg.

The all weather surface also holds no fears for Kiwi Karma with a win and three placings from four tries on the surface and she should be fit enough for her comeback after two barrier trials at the track, the latest a 3.75 length win over 1000 metres.

The lone query for Kiwi Karma remains her inability to win fresh in her two campaigns to date, although she has been placed in both first up runs.

That creates a potential chink in the armour and a hard fit Bellwether could be one to make the most of any such weakness.

At his peak now after four runs back from a break, Bellwether is a five-time winner on the all weather surface including at his latest outing when running on strongly to salute by three quarters of a length over 1000 metres.

While he can’t boast the Group credentials of Kiwi Karma, he does continue his association with Corey Brown who has a 42 percent winning strike rate on the gelding.

Kam’s Comet is a progressive type who looks ready to peak at his third run from a spell.

He has a win and placing from two previous third up attempts and he caught the eye running on strongly over this distance last start.

He is another who is at home on the all weather with three wins and two placings from six attempts.

Mycaptainoblivious beat Kam’s Comet home last start and was also second up there so should yet have improvement to come.

His ability to put himself on the pace and sprint hard in the straight has brought rivals undone before and as a previous third up winner he too should still be on an upward spiral.

A winner of four of his five attempts at the distance, Mycaptainoblivious is yet another contender with a winning strike rate on the all weather with a five from eight record.
