Zeus To Continue Rise Through The Grades

3 minute read

The Cliff Brown stable is in good form of late and handy galloper Zeus can continue that trend at Kranji this evening.

Having only last week won the Group 1 Singapore Guineas with emerging star Debt Collector, Brown now turns his focus to this evening's meeting in Singapore.

Only relatively lightly raced, five-year-old Zeus has enjoyed a purple patch of form and chases a hat-trick of wins in the seventh event.

A handy winner two back in Class 4 company Zeus proceeded to take that next step when taking out a Class 3 event over the mile last start.

Aided by a beautiful ride from Corey Brown, Zeus always travelled well just off the speed and once produced in the straight he ran on strongly to score by just over a length.

Successful in returning a new career peak, Zeus looks to be heading in the right direction and it's hard to see him taking a backwards step.

Unbeaten in his sole attempt over 1700m, Zeus is not a noted polytrack horse but has won on the surface and it shouldn't pose as a concern.

The in-form Corey Brown sticks aboard and has placed in three of five attempts aboard the gelding, overall Brown is striking at 20 per cent when combined with the Brown stable.

Admittedly drawn wide, however Zeus should be able to roll forward and adopt a fairly forward position with Ganador the other likely leader.

In a race clearly lacking pace, Brown may look to in fact lead on Zeus as there is no point conceding ground when they are likely to crawl in front.

Using Timeform weight adjusted ratings Zeus looks well placed on his last start win and if able to repeat he is sure to make his presence felt.

The David Kok trained Well Done failed to salute as favourite last start however his performance still held plenty of merit and he has since trialled well in the lead up.

Given 42 days between runs Well Done has placed at his last five starts and appears set to relish the step up in trip.

Well Done's performance when third behind Blue Danube two back leaves him well placed and he has won on the polytrack previously.

Manoel Nunes continues his association with the four-year-old having placed in all four attempts and overall Nunes is striking at 24 per cent with the Kok stable.

Much like Corey Brown, Nunes won't want to get too far back as on paper it does shape as a sit and sprint affair.

Using Timeform weight adjusted ratings little separates both Zeus and Well Done with a slight lean towards the former given he is expected to settle closer to the lead.

Nonetheless Well Done continues to be a model of consistency and is sure to make his presence felt.

The Stephen Burridge trained Felarof has mixed his form in recent efforts but is more than capable when right and remains under strong notice.

A winner of five of his 27 starts, Felarof steps out beyond a mile for just the third time in his career.

His two previous attempts (1800m and 2000m) saw him unplaced in both, however the slight rise in trip (100m) shouldn't worry him this time around.

He has drawn to receive all the favours and if up to his best he shapes as one of the leading hopes with Vlad Duric in the saddle.

Of the rest the Theo Kieser trained Ganador remains under strong notice.

While safely held in both starts to this point his prior best form in Argentina leaves him with a fair bit of improvement up his sleeve and he cannot be taken lightly.

Good luck and happy punting.
