Nullarbor winner set for more Perth success

3 minute read

Nullarbor winning driver Cameron Hart will be looking for another feature race win in Perth when he teams up with My Ultimate Ronnie in Friday’s Golden Nugget (2536m) at Gloucester Park.

Hart missed the drive on the Jarrod Alchin-trained pacer in last Friday week's 4YO Classic due to Inter Dominion commitments.

He's set to drive in Perth on Friday night, before he flies to Queensland to team up with Swayzee in Saturday night's Inter Dominion Final.

Hart said he couldn't wait to return to Perth.

"I had a great time going over there in April for the Nullarbor," Hart told TABradio.

"Obviously we had success there with Betterzippit.

"I love Gloucester Park and it's a great atmosphere there.

"My Ultimate Ronnie is one of my favourite horses to get behind."

My Ultimate Ronnie was beaten as a $1.20 favourite in the 4YO Classic, taken out by Wonderful To Fly, after he sat outside race leader Hoppy's Way throughout.

Alchin ran blood tests on My Ultimate Ronnie following the defeat, which cleared the pacer of any issues and gave him confidence to press on to the Nugget.

Alchin took My Ultimate Ronnie to Gloucester Park on Saturday morning and was impressed with how he worked.

Hart said he hoped an extra fortnight in Perth would help My Ultimate Ronnie produce a peak performance in the $200,000 feature.

"It was obviously a very disappointing run from Ronnie," he said.

"Going into it Jarrod and Will (Rixon) thought they could drive him like the best horse in the race.

"Will put him in a good spot and tried to control the race, but obviously he wasn't at his best.

"Maybe it took him longer than they thought to settle in there and he's had another two weeks since then to get right.

"Hopefully he can bounce back."

Hart said he was confident Swayzee could cap off a successful weekend, despite tasting defeat in the second and third round of Inter Dominion heats.

"I'm still super happy with the horse," he said.

"He was really sharp over the last 400 metres and once he got clear air he ran through the line well.

"I think he's in a great spot at the minute."
