Keayang Zahara completed a perfect overseas raid with a dominant performance in Friday’s NZ Trotting Derby at Addington.
The Marg Lee-trained filly stretched her career record to 14 wins from 14 starts with a characteristically dominant display in the time-honoured NZ$200,000 Group 1 feature.
Lee's son and driver Jason let the megastar squaregaiter settle midfield in the running line before making a move to take up the lead at the bell. From there, Keayang Zahara was never challenged and opened up in the home straight to win in commanding fashion over Empire City and Father Time.
"She's a rocket and she had plenty in reserve," Jason Lee told Harness Racing New Zealand.
"I'm lucky to sit behind her.
"We always knew she was good, just not this good."
Keayang Zahara's triumph concludes a three-race assault on New Zealand, which included big victories in The Ascent slot race and NZ Trotting Oaks.
