Star pacer Catch A Wave is set to have one final Victorian hit-out before chasing a Group 1 triumph in New South Wales.
The Andy Gath-trained pacer will line-up in Saturday night's Popular Alm and Vin Knight Free For All before heading to Menangle for the Len Smith Mile the following weekend.
Catch A Wave made his return to the Melton trials on Tuesday in preparation for Saturday night's $24,000 event.
"He trialled good and it is what you would expect," Gath said. "He has had a lot of work since his last run and a pretty solid trial. I would expect him to perform better than he did first-up."
The winner of 22 races from 39 starts has drawn barrier 10 on Saturday night with Kate Gath set to continue her relationship with the winner of close to $2million.
"The back row over 1720m is always difficult," Gath said.
Gath, 55, had a strong bond with the late Vin Knight whom Saturday night's race is named after.
"I did three Inter Dominions with him and did a number of other trips with him. I was young at the time and he was a good friend of mine," Gath said.
The Popular Alm and Vin Knight Free For All is set to go at 6.05pm.
