Trainer Ryan Bell is confident stable star Swingband is going well enough to figure prominently in tonight’s JP Stratton Cup (2130m) at Gloucester Park.
Swingband returns to racing for the first time since he was unplaced in April's Fremantle Cup (2936m).
Prior to that, he produced a near career best performance in running third in the $1.25 million Nullarbor (2536m).
The five-year-old hasn't trialled ahead of tonight's event, but Bell said he still had him well placed to figure prominently tonight.
"We gave him a race conditions hit out last Wednesday and Saturday at GP," Bell told TABradio
"We were pretty stoked with what he showed on the clock.
"He's pretty forward.
"I would say his 90 to 95 per cent which is still good enough."
The son of Alta Christiano has drawn fairly in barrier 11 for tonight's $100,000 event, with key fancies Mister Smartee and Pinny Tiger drawn in two and five respectively.
Bell said Swingband would need some pressure in the event to topple James Brennan Memorial winner Mister Smartee.
Mister Smartee is a $1.40 TABtouch favourite for tonight's event, with Pinny Tiger at $4.20.
Swingband, to be driven by Kyle Symington tonight, is a $31 chance for tonight's event and a $15 chance for next month's $450,000 WA Pacing Cup.
Bell said Swingband had also been nominated for this year's Inter Dominion series in Sydney, but conceded it was more unlikely than likely.
